Instrumentation & Controls (I&E) Service Technician
Dominion Automation | Henrico, VA | Full-time | $38-$42/hr

About the Role
Dominion Automation is a growing industrial automation and controls company serving manufacturing, water/wastewater, and process facilities across Virginia. We're looking for an experienced I&E technician who enjoys solving problems in the field, takes pride in clean work, and wants to grow with a small team where your skills are noticed and rewarded.

This is a hands-on role with variety: one day you're chasing a bad 4–20 mA signal, the next you're running conduit, commissioning a new panel, or getting a customer's line back up after a drive fault.

What You'll Do

Instrumentation service: Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair flow, level, pressure, temperature, and analytical instruments. Perform loop checks and verify signal wiring, shielding, and grounding.
Controls service: Respond to service calls at customer sites to diagnose and resolve issues with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and motor controls, getting operations back online quickly.
Installation: Lay out and install rigid and EMT conduit, cable tray, and wiring for industrial power and control systems.
Maintenance and repair: Install, troubleshoot, and maintain control circuits, electrical systems, and industrial equipment.
Panel shop support: Help with fabrication, wiring, and functional testing of control panels as needed.
Startup and commissioning: Support integration and commissioning projects while building your PLC and HMI programming skills.
Documentation: Complete service reports, redline drawings, and calibration records, and clearly explain findings and recommendations to customers and our team.
Safety: Follow all safety and quality standards and customer site requirements.

What You Bring

3+ years of industrial electrical, instrumentation, or controls experience, including hands-on conduit work
Ability to read and interpret schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, panel layouts, and technical manuals
Proficiency with multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, and loop/process calibrators
Working knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar), VFD setup, and industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP or Modbus, or a strong drive to learn them
Sharp troubleshooting skills and the confidence to work through problems independently
Professional, customer-facing demeanor
Willingness to travel to customer sites and take part in an on-call rotation
Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Nice to Have

Water/wastewater treatment experience
Journeyman or Master electrician license, or ISA CCST (Level I, II, or III)
