Maine Coast Contracting | Midcoast Maine
Starting at $20/hour with a clear path for advancement

Learn a Trade. Build Exceptional Homes. Build a Career.

Maine Coast Contracting is looking for motivated people who want to become professional carpenters.

You don't need 10 years of experience.

You do need to show up, work hard, care about what you're building, and want to get better.

We are a professional residential design-build company specializing in custom homes, renovations, and high-performance construction throughout Midcoast Maine.

We're building our company around a simple philosophy:

The client should win. The company should win. And the people who make it happen should win.

If you're serious about learning the trade, we'll give you the opportunity, tools, mentorship, and experience to build a real career.

Compensation & Benefits

Apprentice carpenters start at $20/hour, with opportunities for increases as skills, productivity, and responsibility grow.

MCC also offers:

PTO
Paid holidays
Performance bonus opportunities
401(k) with company match
Company contribution toward health insurance
Top-quality professional tools and equipment
Four-day workweek
Training and mentorship from experienced tradespeople
Clear opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation

Our normal field schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, giving our crew a consistent three-day weekend.

What You'll Learn

Our goal isn't to teach you one repetitive task.

We want to develop well-rounded professional carpenters who understand how an entire building goes together.

Depending on the project, you'll have opportunities to learn:

Structural framing
High-performance building practices
Windows and doors
Exterior trim and siding
Decks and porches
Interior finish carpentry
Cabinetry and built-ins
Renovation and restoration
Detailed custom work
Plan reading
Jobsite organization and planning
Construction problem-solving

You'll work on challenging projects alongside experienced people who can teach you the trade.

Who We're Looking For

We can teach carpentry. We can't teach someone to care.

Experience is helpful, but attitude and work ethic matter more for this position.

We're looking for someone who:

Shows up consistently and on time
Is ready to work
Wants to learn
Takes pride in doing things correctly
Can accept constructive feedback
Keeps tools and work areas organized
Respects coworkers, clients, tools, and jobsites
Asks questions when they don't understand something
Helps the people working around them
Wants increasing responsibility
Takes satisfaction in seeing what they accomplished at the end of the day

You will make mistakes while learning. That's expected.

What matters is whether you take responsibility, learn from them, and improve.

Your Opportunity at MCC

We don't believe someone should remain an "apprentice" indefinitely.

As your capabilities increase, so should your responsibility and compensation.

At MCC, professional carpenters can earn up to $50/hour based on demonstrated craftsmanship, productivity, independence, problem-solving, organization, leadership, and responsibility.

There is a real career path here for someone willing to earn it.

High Standards Go Both Ways

We're going to expect a lot from you.

You should expect a lot from us too.

If we expect you to arrive prepared, the company needs to be prepared.

If we expect you to take care of your tools, we need to provide quality equipment.

If we expect you to improve, we need to provide opportunities to learn.

If you become more valuable to the company, there should be an opportunity to earn more.

And if we expect accountability from our employees, leadership needs to be accountable too.

That's the company we're building.

Is This You?

You don't need an impressive résumé.

We're much more interested in where you want to go than pretending you already know everything.

If you're dependable, willing to work, humble enough to learn, and want to become genuinely good at a skilled trade, we'd like to meet you.

Apply through Indeed and tell us a little about yourself, any construction experience you have, and why you're interested in becoming a professional carpenter.
