Project Manager — Story Interior Design

Location: In-person in Memphis, TN (30-40 hrs/week in office, up to 5 hrs remote if needed)

Position Type: Part-Time to Full-Time

What You’ll Do

Client & Designer Support

Prepare the designer for client meetings, attend meetings, take notes, and schedule follow-ups.
Assist with design selections (fabric, wallpaper, paint, finishes) as needed.
Communicate with clients throughout the process about retainers, proposals, deposits, order status, and installation timelines.
Provide weekly updates to clients regarding project progress, delays, reselections, and scheduling.

Project & Order Management

Prepare and send client proposals following meetings.
Request pricing from vendors, workrooms, and subcontractors (e.g. wallpaper hangers, painters).
Place and manage all purchase orders, ensuring timely tracking and resolution of issues (shipping delays, damages, etc.).
Coordinate and lead all aspects of the project from proposal through final install, keeping the designer informed throughout.

Installations

Manage install scheduling and logistics, including delivery setup, drapery installers, and client coordination.
Ensure all install materials are prepped and on site (lightbulbs, steamers, tools, etc.).

Finance & Invoicing

Review open invoices weekly, follow up on outstanding payments, and generate new invoices after installs.

Team Coordination

Schedule office runner in collaboration with other PMs and office manager.
Delegate office organization tasks (e.g., box opening, delivery inspections) while keeping primary focus on the designer’s project management needs.

Work Schedule & Time Off

Minimum of 30 hours per week in the office; up to 5 hours may be worked from home if needed.
Position allows for up to 3 weeks (15 workdays) off from work.
Story Interior Design is closed during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Time-off requests should be submitted to the Managing Partner and added to the team calendar.
Personal appointments should be scheduled outside of work hours unless pre-approved the week prior.

Projects are on time, on budget, and clients feel well-cared for.
The design team is freed up to focus on vision, relationships, and creativity.
Communication is clear and proactive—clients and team members know what’s happening, when, and why.
The PM is a calm, reliable, respected presence in the studio.
