Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate large hydraulic cranes (60 - 300 ton) as well as boom trucks (22 - 45 ton) as safely and effectively as possible.
- Understand and comply with all company safety policies, training and procedures.
- Read and understand plans, specifications, operators’ manuals, safety manuals, rigging tables and load capacity charts. Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
- Be responsible for your own safety as well as those working in the area.
- Inspects crane equipment, structural components, and rigging, identifying defects, wear, or operational issues and determining their causes.
- Uses approved hand and voice signals to safely guide the installation, positioning, handling, and movement of loads and crane operations.
- Direct oilers, truck drivers, and riggers in crane setup/teardown.
- Exhibit professional conduct with customers, the public, and coworkers.
- Complete and review job tickets to document work performed for customer approval.
- Safely operate commercial trucks and support vehicles, including forklifts and passenger vehicles.
- Adhere strictly to all DOT regulations, traffic laws, and company safety standards.
- Perform physical tasks including climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and material handling.
- Verifies load weights and compares them to crane lifting capacities, taking all necessary precautions to prevent unsafe conditions.
- Lubricate and maintain crane components—including boom sections, cables, pulleys, and grappling devices—to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Track and report operating hours for maintenance schedules.
- Fuel, clean, hook/unhook, and wash assigned vehicles.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Valid Class A CDL, acceptable driving record, and current DOT medical card required.
- Minimum 2 years of recent Class A CDL driving experience.
- Minimum 5 years of taxi crane experience.
- NCCCO Rigger 1 Certification, OSHA 10, and PA State Crane Operator License.
- Must wear appropriate PPE while onsite and at shop.
- Reliability, punctuality, and strong team performance expected.
- Occasional out-of-town work required.
- Must pass a background check, drug test, and DOT physical.
- Strong understanding of highway safety, traffic regulations, and safe equipment operation.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Willingness to perform demanding physical work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
- Highly motivated, organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure.
- Strong customer service mindset with professional communication skills.
- Effective teamwork, documentation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience with Grove, Link-Belt, and Liebherr cranes preferred.
