We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Custom Fabricator/Installer to bring brand activations, experiential sets, and retail build-outs to life. Duties
- Interpret design concepts and technical drawings created using tools such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Rhino, reading to ensure accurate fabrication and installation.
- Build custom structures, displays, and sets utilizing carpentry skills, woodworking techniques, and hand tools.
- Operate power tools and heavy machinery safely to cut, shape, assemble, and finish materials including wood, foam, plastics, and metals.
- Install fabricated elements on-site with precision, ensuring alignment with design specifications and safety standards.
- Apply finishing techniques such as painting, and color matching based on art direction and color theory principles.
Qualifications
Established custom fabrication/scenic building firm seeking full time fabricator/installers experienced with set building, brand activations and retail/commercial build-outs. We are hiring experienced, motivated, and team-oriented individuals. Prior experience with custom fabrication AND installation in a production capacity is required. Advanced carpentry and fabrication skills are mandatory.
Drop Works is at the forefront of scenic and experiential custom fabrication in the Bay Area. We design, source and fabricate various elements for retail and event activations, scenic architecture for commercial photo shoots and product testing, and permanent and semi-permanent retail build-outs.
No, one project is ever the same at Drop Works, and this work requires an understanding and capacity for working in a fast paced production based fabrication environment. We operate a large fabrication shop and commercial photo studio, located in Vallejo, CA.
Self-transport and flexible schedule are required. Work takes place at our shop in Vallejo and at offsite installs/build throughout the Bay Area. Early mornings, possible travel, evenings, weekends, and overtime are all parts of the role. We are hiring for builders for immediate full-time employment (40 hours per week plus overtime as needed).
Responsibilities include carpentry based custom fabrication for activations and scenic architecture and permanent retail fixtures, logistics, transport and installation of custom fabricated elements and sets, and any and all manner of fabrication projects for commercial customers and private events. A significant amount of tasks are completed in small teams, and being able to work well with other people, under tight deadlines is a must.

Working accurately, efficiently and independently to complete assigned tasks is foundational to this position.
*Required Qualifications*
5+ years of custom fabrication and detailed carpentry experience are required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, crouch, pull, bend, kneel, climb and reach for extended periods of time.
- Proven experience in fabrication and installation within environments such as brand activations, trade shows, retail spaces, or theater productions.
- Furniture making, finish carpentry and cabinet making skills can be helpful in this arena, as many of our projects require facets of these skillsets.
- Significant knowledge in the safe and effective use of of professional power tools used in a carpentry shop/fabrication setting (i.e. table saw, panel saw, thickness planer, compound miter saw, router, pneumatic stapler/nailer, orbital sander.
- Ability to read, comprehend and accurately fabricate and install builds from drawings and plans is required. Strong mathematical ability also required to ensure accuracy and consistency when reading plans, measuring, fabricating and installing.
- Due to the significant image on workflow and project efficiency, we require our employees to maintain consistent attendance with a strong focus on arriving to work at the assigned location, on-time, daily.
- Professional communication, attire, and overall demeanor with clients and colleagues.
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work independently, multi-task and show flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable transportation is required as employees are sometimes scheduled to start the day at an offsite location.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and background check required.
