Position SummaryThe Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of mechanical construction projects, specializing in HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems. This position offers an opportunity to lead impactful projects within a dynamic environment requiring technical proficiency and strong leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in construction management while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management Lifecycle: Lead the planning, execution, and closing of multiple mechanical construction projects, ensuring adherence to defined scope, schedule, and budget. Participate in all phases of projects, including bidding, proposal development, execution, punch lists, and closeout.
- Financial and Planning Management: Develop detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans, utilizing construction management software tools. Stay current on market trends, material costs, and competitive conditions to support pricing and decision-making.
- Procurement and Contracts: Manage the procurement processes, including construction estimating, contracts, and vendor relationships. Oversee material procurement and coordinate with suppliers and vendors for pricing and availability.1
- Team and Staff Leadership: Lead and support project staff assigned to mechanical projects. Work closely with Project Administrators to procure custom materials such as valves, meters, and specialty equipment.
- Document Review and Approval: Review quantity takeoffs prepared by Project Administrators for accuracy and completeness. Review and approve critical documents prepared by Project Administrators and subcontractors, including submittals, RFIs, and change orders. Review purchase orders (POs) and subcontractor agreements prior to execution.
- Technical Oversight: Coordinate with engineering teams to review blueprints, schematics, and contracts to ensure all project specifications are met, particularly for systems like HVAC, piping, plumbing, chilled water, heating hot water, and VRF systems. Oversee on-site activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Communication and Stakeholder Relations: Manage client relationships and provide proactive, professional communication throughout the project lifecycle. Facilitate communication among all stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and internal teams for effective project coordination. Coordinate with customers to schedule service and maintenance appointments as needed.
- Reporting and Administration: Monitor project progress and manage project documentation, change orders, and progress reports throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure timely resolution of issues related to construction site activities and resource allocation.
- Continuous Improvement: Adapt to evolving processes and support continuous improvement as the company grows.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in mechanical design and/or construction project management, with significant exposure to HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology, or equivalent experience.
- Technical Expertise: Expertise in mechanical systems installation within commercial or industrial settings. Strong knowledge of construction estimating, contracts management, and project scheduling. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately.
- Software Proficiency: Proven experience with construction management software such as Bluebeam. Proficiency in project management and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, ProCore, HeavyBid) is necessary.
- Skills: Excellent project management skills with a focus on time management and resource allocation. Solid understanding of construction site safety protocols and compliance requirements. Effective written and oral communication skills for coordinating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
