Role Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of facility, production, and material-handling equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. This role supports operational continuity by maintaining mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration/utility, and building systems; responding to emergency maintenance needs and fire calls; assisting with equipment startups; completing required documentation; and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Work may include support of shop, production, warehouse, and cold storage/freezer areas as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and facility/industrial maintenance principles.
- Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of equipment, including material-handling and production/freezing equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to diagnose equipment issues and determine safe, effective repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics/diagrams as provided, work orders, and safety instructions.
- Basic math skills; ability to use common measuring/diagnostic tools (e.g., tape measure and voltmeter/multimeter).
- Ability to use shop and hand tools safely; familiarity with common shop equipment (e.g., grinders, band saw, drill press) is a plus.
- Ability to document work accurately and clearly; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards; ability to follow lockout/tagout and other required procedures.
- Experience with refrigeration systems (including ammonia) and/or processing/packaging equipment is a plus.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school training preferred.
- Facilities, industrial, production, or material-handling equipment maintenance experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance programs (PM/CM); experience completing maintenance work orders/documentation preferred.
- Experience working on forklifts, pallet jacks, aerial lifts, or other MHE is a plus.
- Experience with refrigeration systems (including ammonia), boiler/utility systems, or industrial processing/packaging equipment is a plus.
- Relevant certifications or licenses (e.g., electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, fire systems, welding, or general maintenance) are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Mobility: Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and climbing throughout the shift.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and perform repetitive motions.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to see clearly both near and far, including reading gauges, controls, and maintenance documentation.
- Hearing: Ability to hear and respond to alarms, machinery sounds, and verbal instructions.
- Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively to convey instructions, information, and safety warnings.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in industrial/manufacturing and facility environments, including maintenance shops, production areas, warehouse areas, and both indoors and outdoors as assigned.
- May require work in cold storage/freezer areas and other temperature-varying environments.
- Regular exposure to machinery and moving equipment, noise, dust, grease, vibration, steam, and moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to hazardous materials or systems/equipment (including refrigeration systems as applicable); required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn.
- Work environment subject to change based on duties performed.
