Responsibilities and Duties:

Reviews work orders and parts from Department Supervisor and Lead Person.

Works from blueprints. Performs weld techniques per required material and weldment.

Demonstrated proficiency in mig welding.

Sets-up weld equipment per material type listed on work order. Welds part per work order and blueprints.

Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.

Use basic power hand tools and grinders to clean up weld work e.g., de-burring, clean weld splatter.

Completes the Weld Quality Check list as required.

Supports the company’s lean initiatives and assists in Lean projects as required.

Follows all safety practices and rules. Maintains clean and safe working environment in line with company policies.

Supports other departments or completes other duties, as necessary.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
-
A welding certification or on job experience is strongly recommended.
-
Previous experience with mig weld procedures is required.
-
Previous experience with handheld grinders, drills, hammer, plasma cutting torch, blaster equipment and drill press is strongly desired.

Previous application of lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving tools is a plus.

Good understanding of blueprint reading.

Must be able to read squares and measuring tapes.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Lifts frequently (50% of normal workday) material weighing 5 – 25 lbs. occasionally lifts (15% of normal workday) material weighing 25 – 60 lbs. lifting generally from floor level to waist level.

Must reach, stoop, kneel and crouch.

Be able to read part numbers and directions provided on a worksheet.

Works within a team cell environment

Must be reliable and willing to work overtime when required.

Dexterity: MIG welders work with their hands and need to be steady during the welding process.

Strength: MIG welders often need to lift or hold heavy pieces of metal in place while welding.

Stamina: MIG welders can expect long hours on their feet, often in hot conditions.

Technical Skills: Welding equipment requires technical knowhow, as does reading blueprints and understanding how the final product should look.

Troubleshooting Skills: Welders should see flaws in welds or structural imperfections in the metal.

Good Vision: Keeping a steady eye on the weld as it takes form requires good vision.
