Design low-voltage, security, and network systems for multi-family and commercial buildings.
About Us
We are a design-build low-voltage integration firm specializing in multi-family residential and commercial projects, including structured cabling, access control, CCTV, intercom, Wi‑Fi, and network/ISP infrastructure.
Our founder has been personally handling most of the design work and is now hiring a Design Engineer to take over this function so leadership can focus on sales, relationships, and business growth.
Role Overview
Your mission is to grow into owning our low-voltage design process end-to-end. You will start by handling day-to-day design work with direct mentorship from the owner, who will transfer the standards, workflows, and judgment he’s been using. As you ramp up, you will become the primary owner of design deliverables, templates, and coordination with sales, project management, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for low-voltage design on assigned projects from concept through construction documents, with mentorship available as needed.
- Review architectural and electrical plans to design systems including structured cabling, access control, CCTV, intercom, Wi‑Fi, and network/ISP infrastructure.
- Produce coordinated device layouts, floor plans, riser diagrams, and network topologies in AutoCAD (or similar).
- Develop detailed bills of material (BOMs), equipment schedules, and scope clarifications to support proposals and budgets.
- Act as the primary design point of contact for sales, project management, and field teams once ramped up.
- Support sales/business development with quick-turn design concepts, budgets, and value-engineered options during pre-sales.
- Respond to RFIs and field questions, and update drawings as site conditions or client requirements evolve.
- Help standardize and maintain design templates, blocks, notes, and BOM libraries, incorporating feedback from your mentor and the field.
Mentorship and Growth
- Direct mentorship from the owner, who has been doing this design work and will actively coach you on design standards, tradeoffs, and decision-making.
- Regular check-ins focused on both technical skills (design quality, tools, codes) and workflow (prioritization, communication with sales and field teams).
- Clear growth path from “designer ” to “design lead” as you demonstrate the ability to independently own projects and improve our standards.
- Opportunity to help shape how the design function operates as the company scales.
What Success Looks Like
- You can independently take a new project from plans to a complete design package with minimal owner involvement.
- Sales and project teams rely on you as their go-to design partner for proposals and execution.
- The owner is spending most of their time on sales and business development instead of drawing and revising plans.
- Our design standards become sharper and more repeatable as you contribute improvements over time.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in low-voltage systems design, security integration, telecom, or a closely related field (multi-family or commercial projects preferred).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar CAD software) for construction-ready drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and electrical plans.
- Working knowledge of at least two of: access control, CCTV, structured cabling, Wi‑Fi/network infrastructure, or intercom/entry systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable asking questions, taking feedback, and iterating as part of a mentoring relationship while still driving work forward.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with both office and field teams.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with multi-family projects (100–400+ units).
- Experience with Revit, Bluebeam, or design automation workflows.
- Familiarity with ISP/MDU design (MDF/IDF layouts, backbone cabling, etc.).
- Relevant certifications (BICSI, manufacturer or networking certs) or an engineering/technology degree.

- Location: Troy, MI – Onsite / Hybrid.
- Primarily design/documentation work, with occasional site visits and coordination meetings.
