POSITION OVERVIEW

Data One Construction is seeking an experienced Journeyman Electrician to join our specialized team on mission-critical data center construction projects. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex electrical infrastructure systems that power the digital backbone of the internet.

This is not typical commercial electrical work. Data center projects demand the highest standards of precision, safety, and compliance. You will work on state-of-the-art power distribution systems, redundant backup systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and advanced cable management infrastructure. Every installation must meet rigorous electrical codes, industry standards, and client specifications—zero tolerance for failure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Center Electrical Infrastructure Installation

Install, terminate, and test complex electrical distribution systems including main service feeds, sub-panels, and distribution panels
Work with high voltage systems (480V, 208V) and low voltage systems (120V) in accordance with NEC and data center-specific standards
Install and configure power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and switchgear
Perform precision cable management, routing, labeling, and organization per data center industry standards
Ensure all electrical installations support redundancy, failover capability, and continuous uptime requirements

Blueprint Interpretation & Technical Execution

Read, interpret, and accurately execute complex electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
Understand single-line diagrams, three-phase power distribution, and advanced electrical system configurations
Collaborate with engineers to clarify specifications and resolve installation challenges
Implement changes and modifications per engineering change orders with meticulous documentation

Troubleshooting & Testing

Diagnose electrical system issues using advanced testing equipment (multimeters, clamp meters, power quality analyzers)
Perform voltage verification, continuity testing, and load testing on critical systems
Support commissioning and startup procedures for new data center infrastructure
Identify and resolve electrical problems with minimal downtime to critical systems

Safety & Compliance

Maintain strict adherence to NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70, and data center-specific electrical standards
Follow all OSHA safety protocols and jobsite safety requirements without exception
Work safely with high voltage systems, respecting electrical hazards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
Maintain a proactive safety mindset in a mission-critical environment where reliability is paramount

Documentation & Quality Assurance

Maintain detailed, accurate documentation of all electrical work performed
Complete inspection reports, testing records, and compliance documentation
Ensure all work is labeled, traced, and documented per data center standards
Support quality assurance inspections and third-party verification testing
Maintain meticulous records for future maintenance and troubleshooting reference

Team Collaboration

Coordinate with construction teams, mechanical contractors, and IT infrastructure specialists
Communicate clearly with project managers, engineers, and client representatives
Work collaboratively on complex systems requiring synchronized installation across multiple trades
Support commissioning teams during final system testing and startup

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Journeyman Electrician license issued by state licensing board
7+ years of hands-on electrical work experience in commercial, industrial, or data center environments
Proven expertise with high voltage systems (480V, 208V) and complex power distribution
Advanced knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) and electrical standards compliance
Proficiency with electrical testing equipment including multimeters, clamp meters, voltage testers, and power quality analyzers
Ability to read and interpret complex electrical blueprints and schematics accurately
Strong understanding of three-phase power distribution, load calculations, and electrical system design
Experience with cable termination, crimping, and precision cable management
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and jobsite safety procedures
Reliable transportation and ability to commute to New Jersey
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
Attention to detail and commitment to quality in high-stakes environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Data center electrical construction experience (preferred)
Experience with PDUs (Power Distribution Units), UPS systems, or switchgear installation
Knowledge of redundant electrical systems and failover configurations
Understanding of data center design standards (ANSI/TIA-942 or equivalent)
Familiarity with power quality analysis and system commissioning procedures
Experience with cable trays, conduit systems, and advanced cable management
Background in mission-critical infrastructure (nuclear, utility, pharmaceutical, etc.)
Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic experience with complex electrical systems
Certification in data center electrical systems or advanced electrical coursework
Experience mentoring apprentices
