POSITION SUMMARY
The Forklift Mechanic/Welder performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical and internal-combustion forklifts, other material-handling equipment and professional commercial and industrial floor cleaning equipment. This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 49.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
All employees are required to support Forklifts of Minnesota’s vision, mission, and values. The following are essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or temporarily altered based on the business needs of Forklifts of Minnesota.
1. Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools, wiring diagrams, and schematics
2. Repair or replace engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, motors, brakes, steering, mast components, wiring, batteries, and chargers
3. Perform structural welding and fabrication (MIG/TIG/stick) to repair masts, carriage assemblies, forks, counterweights, and custom mounts
4. Respond to on-site breakdowns and provide timely field repairs to minimize downtime
5. Advise customers or operations staff on repair options, costs, and preventive measures
6. Order, receive, and manage spare parts inventory and document parts usage, and labor hours on work orders
7. Conduct safety inspections and complete pre/post service checklists to ensure compliance with OSHA and manufacturer standards
8. Maintain a clean, safe workspace and follow company safety policies and PPE requirements
9. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the Company
Knowledge, Education, and/or Experience
1. High school diploma or GED
2. Technical or vocational training preferred
3. Proven structural repair and metal fabrication experience
4. Welding certification (AWS or equivalent)) preferred
5. Experience working with hydraulic systems
6. Experience working with electrical systems
7. Material Handling manufacturers certification preferred
8. Certified Forklift Technician (CCCFT) preferred
9. Experience with battery systems (lead-acid and lithium) and charging equipment preferred
Abilities
· Proficient welding abilities (MIG/TIG/stick)
· Able to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and service manuals
· Able to use diagnostic tools
· Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting abilities
· Able to work professionally with all levels of the organization and outside customers
· Strong attention to detail
· Able to be organized, flexible, and easily adaptive to evolving and fast-paced working conditions
· Able to prioritize work and multitask while adhering to deadlines
Must have your own basic hand tools (The Company may provide specialty tools)
Pay: $36.25 - $40.56 per hour
