Location: Southern California Regional / Military Base Operations (DBIDS Access Required)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and autonomous Journeyman Pipefitter/Plumber specializing in commercial, industrial, and federal construction. This role demands mastery in mechanical piping layout, assembly, and joint fabrication, specifically requiring advanced proficiency in welding and brazing. Because this position supports critical infrastructure projects on federal and military facilities, the candidate must successfully pass a rigorous federal background check to secure and maintain military base access credentials.

Core Responsibilities

System Layout & Fabrication

Mechanical Installation: Install, maintain, and repair complex industrial wet-side mechanical systems, including hydronic heating/cooling (chillers and boilers), steam, compressed air, and domestic water/waste utilities.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read, analyze, and execute precise installations directly from architectural plans, civil engineering drawings, and technical 3D isometric piping schematics.
Material Manipulation: Measure, cut, thread, groove, and bend various pipe types including copper, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, PVC, and PEX.

Welding & Brazing Execution

Brazing & Soldering: Perform precision torch brazing (e.g., medical gas lines, high-pressure lines) and soldering on copper distribution systems.
Welding Proficiency: Execute code-compliant structural and pressure pipe welding (SMAW/TIG) on steel and carbon alloy piping networks, ensuring seamless fit-up and execution.
System Testing: Conduct hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing to verify system integrity and ensure zero leaks prior to official inspection.

Compliance, Security & Safety

Base Access Compliance: Maintain a clear record to pass extensive background screenings conducted by Homeland Security / Department of Defense to acquire and maintain DBIDS base passes.
Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all installations strictly comply with the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), ASME codes, and specific project quality assurance guidelines.
Safety Protocol: Adhere to strict OSHA and federal safety mandates (including EM 385-1-1 standards where applicable), implementing proper trench safety, shoring, and confined space protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of verifiable journeyman-level experience in heavy commercial, industrial, or federal plumbing and pipefitting construction.
Technical Skills: Documented competence in both copper brazing and pipe welding applications. Certified or certifiable to code standards.
Background Check: Must possess a valid government-issued ID and be fully eligible to obtain immediate military base clearance. A history free of disqualifying offenses for federal facility entry is mandatory.
Certifications Recommended:
OSHA 10 Construction Safety (OSHA 30 preferred).
Medical Gas Installer Certification (ASSE 6010) is a significant advantage.
Valid California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in active mechanical rooms, handle heavy rigging operations, and stand/kneel for extended durations.
