The Opportunity:
EPD is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Fabrication Programmer to support our Busbar and Sheet Metal Fabrication operations.
This role is responsible for converting engineering drawings, CAD files, and manufacturing specifications into fabrication-ready machine programs that drive production efficiency and quality. The Fabrication Programmer works closely with Engineering, Fabrication, Planning, and Quality teams to optimize material utilization, improve machine throughput, maintain revision accuracy, and support production schedules.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving manufacturing challenges, working with advanced fabrication software, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do:
Programming & Manufacturing Support
- Develop and maintain fabrication programs for busbar and sheet metal manufacturing operations.
- Interpret engineering drawings, DXF files, STP models, PDFs, and fabrication documentation.
- Convert engineering requirements into machine-ready fabrication programs.
- Ensure fabrication programs align with current revisions, specifications, and manufacturing standards.
- Support fabrication operations through accurate program creation and maintenance.
Material Optimization & Efficiency
- Analyze part geometry and determine optimal sheet layouts and nesting strategies.
- Maximize material utilization while minimizing scrap and waste.
- Develop tooling strategies and machine routings that improve fabrication efficiency.
- Optimize bend sequences, machine operations, and production flow.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput and productivity.
ERP & Routing Management
- Create and maintain machine routings within Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
- Assign labor estimates, machine assignments, and production routing information.
- Update routing times and manufacturing standards as needed.
- Maintain accurate ERP records to support scheduling and production planning.
- Assist with production reporting and routing accuracy initiatives.
Revision Control & Production Support
- Process engineering revisions and ensure fabrication programs remain current.
- Support PRIORITY WORK ORDERS and urgent production requests.
- Manage programming updates associated with nonconforming material and rework activities.
- Troubleshoot programming-related production issues.
- Coordinate closely with fabrication leads, operators, planners, and engineering teams.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve tooling utilization and fabrication efficiency.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance productivity and reduce setup times.
- Support standardization efforts across fabrication platforms.
- Participate in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Assist in developing best practices for fabrication programming and nesting operations.
What You Bring:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of fabrication programming or manufacturing programming experience.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication prints, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes including sheet metal and busbar manufacturing.
- Experience using fabrication programming and nesting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities simultaneously.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Dr. ABE, 4i, SheetWorks, P2 Salvagnini, MC Auto, ERHT, or similar fabrication software.
- Experience using Global Shop Solutions (GSS) or other ERP systems.
- Knowledge of CNC fabrication equipment and manufacturing workflows.
- Experience with sheet nesting, tooling optimization, and material utilization strategies.
- Understanding of revision control and engineering change management processes.
- Experience supporting engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
