Duties
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects using estimating software such as Planswift, Excel and QB.
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to interpret project scope and material requirements.
- Develop comprehensive project budgets, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Manage the bidding process by soliciting and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing.
- Oversee project timelines, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to budgets through effective cost control and change order management.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, and internal teams to communicate project scope, updates, and potential risks.
- Utilize construction management software to track project milestones, document changes, and generate progress reports.
- Conduct site visits to review construction progress, verify material quantities, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Review construction contracts to ensure scope alignment and manage contractual obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead efforts in estimating material requirements from blueprints and technical drawings while maintaining meticulous spreadsheets for cost analysis.
Skills
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Planswift, Excel, and QB.
- Strong knowledge of construction drawing review, blueprint reading, and interpreting technical specifications.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable pricing with vendors and subcontractors.
- Experience managing projects as a construction estimator with a proven track record of delivering on time and within budget.
- Familiarity with construction management software tools for scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
- Solid understanding of cost management principles including material cost estimating, cost control strategies, and budgeting techniques.
- Ability to read and analyze construction drawings while estimating material requirements accurately from blueprints.
- Effective client communication skills to present estimates clearly and negotiate contracts confidently.
- Construction site experience combined with a thorough understanding of safety protocols and on-site operations.
- Strong organizational skills with expertise in spreadsheets for tracking costs, quantities, and project data.
