Sheet Metal Tech Lead Job Summary:

The Aircraft Sheet Metal Technician Lead is responsible for following instructions given by the Production Manager to execute all sheet metal builds successfully. The goal is to efficiently design and manufacture components and systems that are safe, innovative, and of high quality. The Aircraft Sheet Metal Technician Lead will represent the Company and its values and will ensure that the expectations of the Company’s customers are exceeded by performing the following:

Sheet Metal Tech Lead Responsibilities:

Manage daily manufacturing and assembly operations, allocating team members to balance workloads and meet tight production schedules.
Interpret engineering prints, schematics, and work orders to ensure the physical structure meets exact specifications and quality standards.
Provide on-the-job training and mentorship while strictly enforcing facility safety guidelines. Help lead root-cause analyses for any structural defects.
Champion Lean and Six Sigma methodologies (5S) to minimize waste, optimize cycle times and improve overall floor efficiency.
Accurately estimate work hours and material needs for projects.
Capable of reading and understanding decimal scale and use of scales, protractors, and calipers.
Maintain documentation such as work orders in the company ERP system.
Ability to schedule work.
Experience in the proper Drilling, (proper hole sizes) Countersinking, for the installation of various rivets and hardware fasteners.

Sheet Metal Tech Lead Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma/GED
Minimum Six years related manufacturing and/or installation experience,
Minimum five years related aerospace manufacturing and/or installation experience.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
KA experience in the role, considered expert in the position.
Direct the day-to-day work for a small team, provide support and guidance, ensure product and/or process quality and conformance.
Mentor in the position, trains other technicians on correct use of tools and complex processes.
Possesses an extensive toolbox and experience on proper use of Air Drills, Rivet guns, Routers, Cleco pliers, Clecos, Microstop Countersinks, Rivet squeezers, pencil grinders.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead while performing assembly and installation tasks.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
Ability to use hands for repetitive motions, including gripping, grasping, pinching, drilling, riveting, cutting, sanding, and operating hand and power tools.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to perform precision sheet metal fabrication and installation.
Ability to distinguish colors and visually inspect parts for quality, measurements, alignment, defects, and compliance with specifications. Corrected vision acceptable if it meets job requirements.
Ability to read small print, blueprints, work instructions, measuring scales, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
Ability to work in confined spaces and on ladders, platforms, scaffolding, or elevated work areas when required.
Ability to tolerate exposure to manufacturing conditions including moderate noise, dust, metal shavings, vibration, and varying temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe footwear, respirators (when required), and other protective equipment.
Ability to safely operate hand tools, pneumatic tools, and shop machinery on a regular basis.
