VM Ironworks is an AISC Certified Fabricator specializing in high-quality structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Miscellaneous Metals Fabricator to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have experience fabricating miscellaneous metal components such as stairs, railings, ladders, canopies, embeds, supports, frames, platforms, gates, and other custom metal assemblies. This position requires strong layout skills, the ability to read and interpret shop drawings, and a commitment to producing accurate, clean, high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and project specifications for miscellaneous metal work.
- Fabricate miscellaneous metal components including stairs, railings, ladders, canopies, frames, platforms, gates, brackets, plates, and custom assemblies.
- Measure, lay out, cut, fit, weld, bend, grind, and finish metal components accurately.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment such as saws, drill presses, ironworkers, press brakes, shears, grinders, rollers, punches, and cutting equipment.
- Perform welding and fitting work in accordance with project drawings, AWS requirements, and company quality standards.
- Verify material sizes, dimensions, hole locations, fit-up, weld sizes, and finish requirements before and during fabrication.
- Grind, clean, and finish completed products to meet project requirements.
- Perform quality checks on completed miscellaneous metal components to ensure accuracy, fit, finish, and compliance with drawings.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA safety requirements.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment safely when required.
- Communicate with supervisors, welders, fitters, and quality control personnel to resolve fabrication issues.
- Complete required job reports, production documentation, and quality control paperwork as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in miscellaneous metal fabrication.
- Ability to read and understand shop drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, and fabrication details.
- Experience fabricating stairs, rails, ladders, canopies, embeds, platforms, gates, frames, and other custom metalwork.
- Knowledge of metal fabrication methods, including layout, cutting, fitting, welding, bending, drilling, grinding, and finishing.
- Experience with fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, ironworkers, saws, drill presses, grinders, and cutting tools.
- Welding experience required; AWS certification is preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic shop math.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to troubleshoot fabrication and fit-up issues.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle heavy materials safely.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in a shop environment for extended periods.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
- Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work as part of a team.
Preferred Skills
- AWS welding certification.
- Experience working in an AISC certified fabrication shop.
- Strong miscellaneous metals layout and fitting experience.
- Experience with stairs, railings, ladders, canopies, embeds, platforms, and custom architectural metalwork.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures, fabrication tolerances, and finish requirements.
