Senior Project Manager – Heavy Civil Construction
Gunter Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead heavy civil construction projects from contract award through final closeout. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor management, client relations, and financial performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of projects, and consistently delivers safe, high-quality work on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage multiple heavy civil construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout.
· Lead project kickoff meetings and develop comprehensive project execution plans.
· Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls to maximize profitability.
· Monitor project financial performance, analyze cost trends, and provide regular updates to leadership.
· Review and approve subcontractor agreements, vendor invoices, pay applications, and change orders.
· Coordinate and support project teams, including superintendents, project engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
· Maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, and municipal agencies while ensuring exceptional customer service.
· Conduct regular jobsite visits to monitor safety, quality, productivity, and project progress.
· Ensure compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable KDOT, MoDOT, and local municipal standards.
· Manage project documentation, RFIs, submittals, permits, procurement, and project closeout activities.
· Mentor and support junior project managers and project engineers while promoting collaboration across departments.
· Promote a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
· Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in heavy civil construction.
· Experience managing street rehabilitation, concrete paving, flatwork, and municipal infrastructure projects.
· Strong knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and contract administration.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
· Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and project teams.
· Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
· Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to multiple project sites.
