Position Overview
The Shop Foreman is a highly skilled leader responsible for supervising and coordinating fabrication activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This position provides daily direction to craft employees, manages production schedules and labor requirements, interprets blueprints and specifications, and ensures fabricated assemblies meet applicable codes, customer expectations, and project requirements.
The Shop Foreman builds and maintains a skilled workforce by creating a respectful, positive working environment, developing strong relationships, mentoring employees, and consistently putting people first.
Position Summary
The Shop Foreman supervises and coordinates the daily activities of assigned craft employees within the fabrication shop. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for enforcing company policies and safety requirements, directing fabrication activities, supporting workforce development, and maintaining a respectful and productive shop environment.
Role Responsibilities
Supervise, coordinate, and provide daily direction to assigned craft employees.
Plan and assign work based on production schedules, project priorities, employee skill levels, and available equipment.
Establish and adjust work sequences to meet fabrication and construction schedules.
Review production schedules and estimate labor-hour requirements.
Monitor productivity and work within established project budgets.
Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, specifications, shop drawings, and job orders.
Direct the fabrication and assembly of piping systems, components, and other shop-fabricated products.
Ensure fabricated products meet project specifications, applicable codes, quality requirements, and customer standards.
Maintain a working knowledge of fabrication methods, welding processes, code requirements, materials, and metals.
Inspect work in progress and completed assemblies to verify quality and craftsmanship.
Identify production challenges and coordinate solutions to minimize delays, rework, and material waste.
Assist with daily scheduling, weekly work planning, and the development of project master plans.
Maintain accurate employee time, labor, productivity, and production records.
Enforce company policies, shop procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Provide a safe working environment for RK employees, visitors, and other personnel.
Partner with Corporate Safety representatives and other internal departments as requested.
Maintain positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers.
Address employee concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally and consistently.
Promote a respectful, positive, and inclusive working environment.
Coach, mentor, and develop employees at all skill and experience levels.
Provide employees with clear expectations, ongoing feedback, and opportunities for professional development.
Assist with onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action when appropriate.
Maintain accountability for tools, equipment, and materials, including tool check-in and check-out procedures.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must have MIG and Stainless-Steel Fabrication experience
6G Cert is a plus
Demonstrated experience in fabrication, welding, mechanical construction, or a related skilled trade.
Previous experience leading, supervising, or providing direction to craft employees.
Strong working knowledge of fabrication processes, welding methods, materials, metals, and applicable code requirements.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and job orders.
Ability to plan work, coordinate employees and equipment, and adjust priorities to meet production schedules.
Strong understanding of safety practices, quality standards, productivity expectations, and cost control.
Ability to identify problems, exercise sound judgment, and recommend practical solutions.
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to maintain accurate labor, production, and timekeeping records.
Ability to build positive working relationships and effectively mentor employees.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with project management, safety, quality, and operations teams.
Role-specific technical skills, certifications, and experience may be required based on assigned fabrication activities.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Work indoors, outdoors, and in dusty, noisy, or potentially hazardous environments.
Work at heights, in tight spaces, in confined spaces, and in other challenging locations.
Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, balance, squat, kneel, and crouch.
Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Safely operate and work around fabrication tools, machinery, and equipment.
Maintain working knowledge of trade-related materials, tools, and equipment.
Occasionally lift and carry 51 to 75 pounds.
Frequently exert 31 to 45 pounds of force.
Constantly exert up to 16 to 22 pounds of force to move or handle objects.
