Maintenance Manager

Location: Richmond, IN
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance operations at an established manufacturing facility in Richmond, Indiana. This role is ideal for a hands-on maintenance leader who enjoys solving complex mechanical problems, leading a skilled team, and keeping production equipment running reliably in a facility with aging machinery and legacy systems.

The Maintenance Manager will oversee equipment and facility maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, spare parts inventory, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has a strong industrial maintenance background, practical mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, and the resourcefulness to repair older equipment when replacement parts are difficult to find.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, and develop a team of maintenance technicians across mechanical, electrical, and multi-craft disciplines.
Oversee preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance for bakery production equipment, including mixers, ovens, conveyors, slicers, wrappers, and refrigeration systems.
Troubleshoot and repair older electromechanical equipment, including systems that rely on relay logic and analog controls rather than modern PLC technology.
Develop creative repair solutions for obsolete or discontinued components, coordinating custom machining, welding, fabrication, and outside repair services as needed.
Maintain facility infrastructure, including HVAC, steam systems, electrical distribution, compressed air, and water and wastewater systems.
Manage the CMMS for work orders, equipment history, maintenance scheduling, and spare parts inventory.
Develop strategies for sourcing hard-to-find parts through aftermarket suppliers, rebuilders, and custom fabrication.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce recurring equipment failures and improve production uptime.
Develop annual maintenance budgets, capital improvement plans, and equipment replacement recommendations.
Coordinate equipment shutdowns, major repairs, and overhauls while minimizing production downtime.
Ensure maintenance activities meet food safety, GMP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and OSHA requirements.
Coordinate contractors and specialty vendors while identifying cost-saving and energy-efficiency opportunities.
Support food safety audits, including SQF or other applicable certification programs.

Required Qualifications

Associate's or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on industrial maintenance experience.
At least 5 years of maintenance experience in food manufacturing or another regulated industrial environment.
At least 2 years of maintenance supervisory or management experience.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair older electromechanical systems, including equipment without modern PLC controls.
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
Working knowledge of welding, fabrication, machining fundamentals, and repairing or reverse-engineering worn components.
Experience sourcing obsolete or discontinued equipment parts.
Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, LOTO, and OSHA safety standards.
Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), such as SAP PM, Fiix, or Maintenance Connection.
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience maintaining equipment in older industrial facilities, particularly buildings constructed before 1980.
Experience with steam systems, older refrigeration equipment, conveyors, and mechanical drive systems.
Trade certifications in electrical work, welding, pipefitting, or related disciplines.
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing or Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, including hot production areas and walk-in coolers or freezers, as well as exposure to noise and flour dust.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in confined or elevated spaces, and stand or walk for extended periods.
Availability for on-call response to equipment emergencies, including nights and weekends.

Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for an experienced maintenance professional to take ownership of equipment reliability, lead a maintenance team, and make a direct impact on production performance. The role offers the chance to apply practical trade knowledge, develop long-term maintenance strategies, and solve challenging problems in an established manufacturing environment.
