CNC Router Operator 2nd Shift

Southern Electrical Equipment Company • Full-time • Monroe, North Carolina, United States • $26 - $31 / hour • 2d ago

About Southern Electrical Equipment Company (SEECO):

SEECO was founded in 1920 when several engineers left Duke Power to create a new “start-up” company, with the intent to design and manufacture better products for their industry. They succeeded. That same drive to deliver greater performance and reliability is what animates our engineers, staff, and management today. Our ongoing product development efforts have been a key growth factor for SEECO, producing innovative and commercially successful products, such as unitized transmission switches, line post sensors for transmission switching automation applications, single bottle and multi-bottle vacuum interrupters, and single and variable speed electro-mechanical motor operators.

Summary:

Sets up and operates CNC router equipment to cut, drill and profile sheet, plate and bar stock (aluminum, plastics and other non-ferrous or composite materials) into fabricated parts that meet drawing specifications, shipping schedules and production requirements.

2+ years’ experience operating CNC routers or comparable CNC fabrication equipment (plasma, punch, mill).
2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, job files, work orders and routing sheets.
Working knowledge of CNC router setup, work-holding, tooling, feeds and speeds, and of the fabrication equipment found in the department (saws, drill press, iron worker, shear).
Ability to load, edit and run CNC programs and make offsets and adjustments at the machine.
Proficient with measuring tools used in fabrication (tape measure, calipers, squares, gauges) and capable of part layout.
Ability to perform routine machine maintenance, including dust collection and vacuum table upkeep.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

Use fabrication lists from job files and work orders to determine part quantities; read and interpret engineering drawings, detail drawings and routing sheets.
Set up the CNC router, including work-holding, fixtures, tooling and program selection.
Load and unload material and finished parts; optimize nesting and cut methods to maximize material yield and minimize drop.
Inspect parts during and after the run to verify dimensions and tolerances, and make adjustments as needed.
Select, install, inspect and replace router bits and tooling; report worn or damaged tooling.
Perform routine maintenance and keep the machine, dust collection system and work area clean and organized.
Organize work to meet production requirements and shipping schedules, and communicate job status to leadership.

Other duties as assigned.

Growth and Progression Path:

This role offers a defined career path within the Fabrication and Welding department based on demonstrated experience, skill and performance:

CNC Router Operator (this role) – sets up and runs CNC router equipment to print and schedule.
Fabricator II / III – cross-trains on saws, plasma cutter, iron worker, shear and metal benders, performs own layout and setup, and designs and builds fixtures and templates; typically requires 3-5+ years of fabrication experience.
Lead Fabricator – plans and coordinates fabrication work, supervises and mentors the fabrication team, and inspects components for quality and compliance; typically requires 6+ years of fabrication experience and demonstrated leadership ability.
Manager, Fabrication and Welding – directs the department’s staff, schedules and quality goals; typically requires 5+ years of management or manufacturing experience.

Lateral opportunities include Saw Operator, Welder (with MIG/TIG training), Machine Operator and Engineering Technician (CAD/programming support). Advancement is supported through on-the-job training, cross-training and performance evaluations conducted in partnership with the Director of Human Resources.
