Fire Extinguisher Service Center, a segment of Northwest Fire Inc, is a leading provider of services and equipment for the fire protection and life-safety in the Pacific Northwest. We are a family-owned and operated business serving the Oregon, Southwest Washington and Coastal communities for over 60 years. We serve the commercial and residential customers, functioning as a single-point-of-contact for their fire/life-safety systems and protection needs, including equipment and services to protect their personnel, premises, and maintain compliance with property insurance providers as well as local, state, federal codes and regulations.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Fire Alarm Systems Head to build, lead, and grow our Fire Alarm Systems Installation & Service segment.

This role is ideal for a field-proven leader who wants to shape the future of a department. Over the next 18–24 months, our goal is to strategically grow and expand the Fire Alarm segment. This individual will play a central role in that growth—helping define team structure, processes, standards, and long-term direction while actively performing and overseeing field work.

This is not a desk-only leadership position. The Fire Alarm Systems Head will be deeply involved in self-performing installations, programming, inspections, troubleshooting, and service work while recruiting, mentoring, and leading a high-performing team of technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Growth

Build, develop, and lead a team of fire alarm technicians, apprentices, and future hires
Establish department standards, best practices, and operational processes
Provide direct field leadership, mentorship, and hands-on training
Partner with company leadership to execute a strategic growth plan over the next 18–24 months
Support recruiting, onboarding, and development of new team members
Help shape the long-term vision and structure of the Fire Alarm segment

Hands-On Field & Technical Work

Self-perform installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and service of fire alarm systems
Lead by example in the field on active projects
Perform fire alarm inspections, testing, and maintenance per NFPA 72 and AHJ requirements
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair addressable and conventional systems
Oversee and assist with installation of control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, power supplies, voice evacuation systems, monitoring systems, and low-voltage infrastructure
Program and configure fire alarm control panels and networked systems
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, specifications, submittals, and sequence of operations

Project & Client Coordination

Oversee multiple installation and service projects
Coordinate with general contractors, electricians, sprinkler contractors, monitoring companies, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
Support estimating, proposal development, and pre-bid walkthroughs
Ensure all work is completed safely, on schedule, and in full code compliance
Prepare inspection reports, deficiency reports, and compliance documentation
Maintain strong customer relationships and provide professional system consultation
Perform emergency service and troubleshooting as required
Other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate Requirements

8+ years of hands-on experience in fire alarm installation, inspections, service, programming, and troubleshooting
2+ years of experience leading crews or managing field teams
Strong desire and ability to build and grow a department
Deep working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable building/fire codes
Experience with addressable and conventional fire alarm systems
NICET II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems (preferred)
Oregon Limited Energy License (LEA) or equivalent required
Washington EL06 license or willingness to obtain within 90 days
ICC certifications a plus
Experience with voice evacuation and mass notification systems a plus
Strong blueprint reading and documentation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to balance hands-on field work with leadership responsibilities
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions including climbing ladders, working above ceilings, in crawl spaces, and operating lifts up to 40 feet
Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 pounds
Comfortable working in active construction environments and occupied buildings

Pay: $92,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
