Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Shop Manager/Fabricator or Shop Assistant to help with our shop operations and execute high-quality metal fabrication projects. In this role, you will oversee daily shop activities, fabricate, load, and repair steel equipment, and ensure safety and deadlines are met. Boring machines require mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs in order to be ready for the next job. The ideal candidate will be present in-person from 7 AM to 4 PM (negotiable), and will help with a variety of welding, organizing, loading, unloading, and mechanical/repair tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to work in a complex machining/fabrication shop.

Duties

Manage daily shop operations, including scheduling, loading and unloading trucks, and resource allocation to meet project deadlines.
Fabricate various parts from mild steel (mig and stick welding).
Perform and oversee metal fabrication tasks such as cutting, welding, assembly, and finishing using tools like plasma cutters, power tools, hand tools, and welding equipment including stick, MIG, FCAW, SMAW, etc.
Read technical drawings, and shop drawings accurately to guide fabrication processes.
Help with hydraulic and mechanical issues/repairs on boring machines.

Skills

Capable of loading and unloading heavy machinery onto trucks using forklifts.
Strong knowledge of welding techniques including MIG and stick welding; ability to perform welds that meet AWS standards.
Experience with sheet metal fabrication—including cutting, forming, joining—and metal materials handling.
Familiarity with plasma cutting machines, machining tools, power tools, hand tools, and assembly processes.
Mechanical knowledge of machinery operation and maintenance related to fabrication shops.
Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately for fabrication projects involving mechanical components.
Strong adherence to safety protocols with a focus on maintaining a safe work environment for all team members.
Spanish speaking ability strongly preferred.

This role is ideal for a motivated person skilled in metal fabrication, mechanic work, and shop management. Excellent opportunity for a trade school student, or for a more experienced mechanic/fabricator. There will be many opportunities to advance, as we are a small shop and quickly growing. The ideal candidate will be available from 7 AM to 4 PM to run shop operations at our location.

Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 60.0 per week
