Shift availability (2nd shift) is required. Final schedules will be reviewed with candidate during interview process.

The responsibilities are the following:

Job Summary

The Watch Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the continuous and efficient operation of the residential college’s building systems during assigned shifts. This includes mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing infrastructure, as well as responding to service calls and campus events. The Watch Engineer serves as the primary on-shift point of contact for facilities-related issues, providing excellent customer service, logging calls, and entering work requests into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Primary Responsibilities

· Monitor, operate, and maintain campus MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems including boilers, chillers, pumps, air handlers, and controls.

· Perform scheduled rounds to assess building conditions, record readings, and identify issues.

· Respond to urgent service calls and alarms, troubleshoot and resolve issues, or escalate as needed.

· Provide courteous and professional customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

· Receive and triage facilities-related calls; determine appropriate response and log all calls accurately.

· Enter work orders and update records in the CMMS system to ensure accurate tracking of maintenance activity.

· Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs during shift.

· Support special campus events by coordinating system checks and environmental controls.

· Maintain shift logs, incident reports, and equipment performance data.

· Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with college policies and industry standards.

These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends or holidays).

Other Responsibilities/Conditions

· Shift-based schedule with availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.

· Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and mechanical environments.

May require wearing PPE and responding to urgent issues under time constraints.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or trade certification preferred.

Experience

· Required: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or trade certification preferred.

· Preferred: Valid boiler operator’s license or HVAC certification

· Prefer an OE-2 license.

Minimum 3 years of experience in facilities operations or plant maintenance.

Special Skills/ Equipment

· Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.

· Familiarity with CMMS or building automation systems (BAS) preferred.

· Strong communication skills with a commitment to responsive, solution-oriented customer service.

· Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or emergency situations.

· Computer literacy and ability to learn campus-specific software tools.

Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38.00 - $40.00 per hour
