The East Greenwich School Department is seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician.

Under general supervision from the Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Technician keeps the school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that the buildings present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. The Maintenance person performs a variety of tasks involving the general maintenance and repair of the school building, premises, and various equipment. The Maintenance person may be required to perform general mechanical repairs, woodworking, electrical repairs, painting, heating and ventilation services and any other normal routine repair or preventive maintenance duties associated with the operations of school district buildings and equipment that do not require the skill of a journeyman craftsman. The Maintenance person carries out snow removal and other grounds maintenance services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Under general supervision, required to perform a variety of basic tasks to repair and maintain the buildings, grounds, and equipment in a K-12 school environment. These tasks may include but are not limited to: replacing floor tile, replacing electrical ballasts and florescent tubes, cleaning graffiti, repairing fencing, patching asphalt or concrete, setting forms, installing paper towel or toilet paper dispensers, patching holes in plaster or wood walls, installing movie screens, chalkboards, tack boards, patching roofs, scraping paint, demolition, trenching, cleaning out keyways of locks, vandalism repair work, preventative maintenance on equipment, pressure washing, locker repairs, sheet metal repair, tile repair/replacement (both ceiling and ceramic bathroom tile), indoor bleacher repair, plowing snow and mowing grass. Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Foreman or Director of Facilities.

Perform general maintenance and repair on the District's physical plant involving carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, architectural hardware, and other building trades.
Perform and document routine preventative maintenance on equipment and systems.
Safely operate and work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and personnel lifts.
Safely operate vehicle-mounted plows and tractor-mounted mowers.
Document labor hours and materials expended on assigned tasks.
Identify and report to the Supervisor repair needs and safety discrepancies when observed at facilities.
Perform various grounds maintenance activities (i.e. mows grass, plows snow).
Complete work orders and record information as required.
Performs other related tasks as assigned or required.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
A minimum of three years of experience in general maintenance work or construction.
Knowledge of two or more building skills, i.e. plumbing/electrical, carpentry/mechanical, etc.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to pass a written and physical exam.
Basic written and spoken English
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies.
Ability to read and comply with labels and OSHA safety warnings on cleaning agents and hazardous materials.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activity related to maintenance duties.
Ability to work under minimal supervision and be an effective self-starter.
Ability to understand and follow both written and oral directions.
Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required

Tools & Equipment Used

Use of various types of hand and motorized tools or equipment.
Safe work procedures and safety precautions.
Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance and repair work skills.
Basic safety practices related to custodial work.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors, and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. Pay: $21.40 - $23.95 per hour
