Starting Pay Rate: The pay range for this position is $31.65 - $47.48 per hour, based on experience

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Introduction

The HVAC & Facilities Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, and performs maintenance on the facilities and mechanical equipment of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park. This role is responsible for diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting the efficient operation of large-scale systems such as chillers, boilers, and rooftop units. The Technician helps ensure that all airport buildings and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

Essential Functions

Diagnose, adjust, repair, and service a wide variety of specialized commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including chillers, boilers, rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, and associated electrical and mechanical components.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues in HVAC and facility systems, drawing upon advanced technical knowledge and strong diagnostic skills.
Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and facility equipment to promote energy efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Test equipment performance, identify defects, and ensure proper operation before returning systems to service.
Overhaul, service, and assemble hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, pneumatic, and electrical control systems and components.
Repair and maintain building systems, including HVAC, water systems, electrical systems, doors, structural components, and other related airport and industrial park infrastructure.
Perform duties associated with the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park facilities.
Create and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, and project documentation in a timely and organized manner.
Operate various types of mowing, heavy, and construction equipment as needed to support facility operations.
Works well under pressure to meet project schedules and budget guidelines, and is flexible and available to work required overtime upon request.
Hours will vary during snow removal and emergencies.
Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the basic principles of construction.
Knowledge and use of, or ability to learn, computer software programs.
Ability to safely navigate and observe construction sites without disrupting the construction process or creating safety risks.

Must be able to work at heights of 80 feet.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and extensive and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) or more years of experience servicing, repairing, and troubleshooting commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, and rooftop units (RTUs).
Experience working with building mechanical, electrical, and structural systems in a commercial, industrial, or public sector facility.
Prior experience in facilities maintenance, airport operations, or a large-scale campus environment (preferred but not required).

Specific vision abilities required, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment will be provided by the Lincoln Airport Authority.

Safety Requirements

Adherence to standards established in the LAA Employee Handbook, Policy Directives, Airport Rules and Regulations, Standard Operating Procedures, and all other established safety requirements applicable to the position is required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high places; in outside weather conditions; and is occasionally exposed, with appropriate PPE, to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Condition of Employment

The employee is required to meet the essential functions, skills, abilities, etc., listed in this document. The employee must be at least 18 years of age. Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, criminal history check, drug screening, and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy. Any associated costs for the screenings will be covered by the Lincoln Airport Authority. The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates. The employee must obtain a CDL license within six (6) months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.
