Wages - $30.83 - $51.38 Per Hour on the check

Benefits = $22.78 Per Hour

A concrete finisher in Alaska is responsible for placing, finishing, Form setting and repairing concrete on a wide range of commercial, industrial, residential, and public‑works projects. The role combines technical skill, physical endurance, and the ability to work safely in Alaska’s challenging climate. Below is a clear, structured breakdown of the core responsibilities.

Not a Journeyman, No Problem.

Our Apprenticeship program trains apprentices to become journey‑level Cement Masons and Plasterers, skilled in:

Placing, finishing, and repairing concrete, Patching
Curb & Gutter, Flatwork, Walls
Working with structural, flatwork, architectural, and decorative concrete
Applying plaster, stucco, fireproofing, and specialty coatings
Reading plans, setting forms, and using industry tools
Working safely in Alaska’s climate and on remote job sites

These skills directly support Alaska’s major construction sectors—oil & gas, defense, utilities, transportation, and public infrastructure—where demand for trained workers is rising

Duties

Cement Mason – Key Duties

Set and prepare forms, grades, and reinforcement
Place, spread, and consolidate concrete
Smooth, float, trowel, and edge surfaces
Create broom, hard‑trowel, and decorative finishes
Cut and tool control/expansion joints
Apply curing compounds, sealers, and surface treatments
Patch, repair, and resurface concrete
Operate and maintain finishing tools and equipment
Follow safety standards and work effectively with crew

Skills

Cement Mason – Essential Skills

Proficient with hand and power finishing tools (trowels, floats, screeds, grinders)
Strong understanding of concrete mixes, placement, and finishing techniques
Ability to read grades, forms, and basic construction plans
Skilled in creating smooth, broomed, and decorative finishes
Knowledge of curing methods and cold‑weather concrete practices
Ability to cut and tool control/expansion joints accurately
Competent in patching, resurfacing, and concrete repair
Strong physical stamina and ability to work long hours in variable weather
Reliable teamwork, communication, and job‑site safety awareness
