Job Summary

Regional MRO has supported the aviation industry for 40 years and offers stable, day-shift work in an FAA/EASA Part 145 repair station environment. This is a hands-on aircraft structures role focused on in-service composite component repair—not production layup, tooling, or assembly-only work.

This role is for a technician who takes pride in repeatable workmanship, accurate documentation, and repairs performed correctly to approved technical data. The work includes scarf repair, core repair, bonding, wet lay-up/hand lay-up, cure control, trim/finish, and coordination with Quality at required hold points.

Qualified candidates should be prepared to discuss one scarf repair and one core repair they personally performed. A structured technical screen and on-site skill demonstration are part of the hiring process, so experienced technicians can show what they know in a controlled, fair evaluation.

About the Role

The Composite Repair Technician restores in-service aircraft components made from fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar/aramid, and other composite systems. Work is performed to approved technical data, including OEM manuals, engineering drawings, repair specifications, and approved internal data.

This role may fit candidates whose prior titles include Aircraft Structures Technician, Aircraft Composite Technician, Composite Mechanic, Structures Mechanic, Composite Repair Technician, Aviation Composite Technician, military aircraft structural maintenance technician, or military composites technician.

Repair Role, Not Production-Only Work

This position requires hands-on repair capability in a regulated aviation environment.

You should be able to discuss:

Scarf repair preparation and execution
Ply orientation and layup discipline
Honeycomb or foam core removal/replacement
Bonding and cure control
Material traceability
Work order/traveler documentation
Quality inspection checkpoints and hold points

If most of your experience is production layup, tooling, part fabrication, or assembly, you may still be considered only if you can clearly demonstrate hands-on composite repair experience.

Key Responsibilities

Perform surface preparation and damage removal, including scarf preparation when required by approved data
Perform wet lay-up/hand lay-up repairs, including correct ply orientation and contour restoration
Perform core removal/replacement and bonding tasks as required by the repair
Perform room-temperature and oven cures when required
Verify and document time/temperature requirements for cure operations
Perform trim and finish operations, including routing, drilling, sanding, deburr, fill, and contour restoration
Complete accurate work order documentation, including material and batch/lot traceability where required
Follow SDS, PPE, and environmental controls
Maintain an organized work area and support continuous improvement

Documentation and Quality Expectations

This is a regulated Part 145 aviation repair environment. The work must be performed correctly, documented correctly, and coordinated with Quality at required checkpoints.

The successful candidate must be comfortable with:

Working to approved technical data and controlled work instructions
Completing travelers, work orders, routers, or repair records accurately
Respecting inspection checkpoints and hold points
Working effectively with Quality and Engineering when clarification is needed
Stopping work when instructions are unclear, damage is outside scope, or a discrepancy is found
Documenting issues and obtaining disposition before proceeding
Maintaining awareness of tool calibration and recordkeeping requirements

Composite Process Controls

Candidates should understand and apply:

Contamination prevention and FOD control
Surface preparation discipline
Temperature and humidity requirements when applicable
Material control, including batch/lot, shelf life, freezer out-time/out-time, pot life, and mix ratio method where applicable
Consumables control, including peel ply, release film, bleeder, breather, solvents, adhesives, and related materials where applicable
Cure control and documentation for room-temperature and oven cure processes

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Minimum 2 years hands-on composite repair experience in a Part 145, OEM, military, or similarly regulated aviation environment
Hands-on experience with wet lay-up/hand lay-up, scarf repair, core replacement, bonding, and cure control as applicable
Ability to interpret technical data, including manuals, drawings, and repair specifications
Ability to follow approved processes without shortcuts
Strong documentation habits and traceability mindset
Able to lift up to 50 lb
Able to work standing, kneeling, crouching, and overhead
Able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening in a safety-sensitive aviation environment

Preferred Qualifications

FAA-recognized composite structures training or certificate
A&P certificate
Equivalent military composites or aircraft structures background
Eligibility to obtain an FAA Repairman Certificate for composite structures, as applicable to the role
Prior experience in regulated aviation environments with strong inspection and compliance standards

Military Experience Encouraged

Veterans with experience in aircraft structural maintenance, sheet metal, corrosion control, composite repair, surface preparation, or quality/inspection are encouraged to apply.

Equivalent MOS, AFSC, ratings, or military repair experience will be considered. The most important factor is the ability to transfer that experience into disciplined, documented, hands-on composite repair work in a Part 145 repair station.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in an FAA/EASA Part 145 repair station environment. The role may involve exposure to aircraft components, tools, machinery, adhesives, solvents, paints, dust, fumes, and other shop conditions. PPE is required.

The position requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lb, kneeling, crouching, overhead work, and careful hands-on work with composite materials and aircraft components.
