Refrigeration Technician — 1099 Contract, Set Your Own Hours (EPA 608 Required)

We operate two contrast-therapy studios in West Chester and Austin Landing (Dayton). Fifteen private suites, each with an infrared sauna and a commercial cold plunge. The plunges are self-contained refrigeration units — compressor, condenser, plate heat exchanger, and a water loop.

We're contracting with one experienced refrigeration tech to keep them running and keep suites in service.

Why this engagement is different

You set your own schedule. There's no window you have to work inside — 6am, 10pm, Sunday afternoon, whatever fits around your primary work. We pull the suite out of our booking system around you. This is built as steady side income for a tech who already has a full-time position and wants predictable extra hours entirely on their own terms.

You're free to take other work. We're not asking for exclusivity.

The work is indoor, climate-controlled, and clean. No roofs, no attics, no crawlspaces. Two sites, 35 minutes apart, both with easy access.

Scope of work

Preventive maintenance: condenser coil cleaning, airflow verification, electrical inspection, performance and pull-down testing
System diagnosis — pressures, superheat/subcool, leak isolation — with clear written findings
Electrical diagnosis and repair: capacitors, fan motors, compressor windings, controls, sensors
Water-loop repair: circulation pumps, filter housings, unions, fittings, leak correction
Photo documentation and a brief written record with each invoice

The units are under manufacturer warranty, so sealed-system repairs are performed by the manufacturer. Your role on those is accurate diagnosis and documentation so claims get filed correctly and suites come back online fast.

Required

EPA 608 Universal certification
3+ years hands-on sealed-system refrigeration. Commercial refrigeration, appliance, or light commercial background preferred over residential HVAC install
Able to read a system accurately and explain what you found in writing
Your own hand tools, gauges, and meters
Your own general liability insurance, with certificate provided
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
W-9 on file before first payment

Nice to have

Brazing and sealed-system repair experience
Pool, spa, or hydronics experience
Water chemistry familiarity
Rotary compressor experience
A2L (R-32) handling experience

About the work ahead

This starts as maintenance and diagnostic work across two studios. We're serious about doing it properly — documented, preventive, and measured, not reactive. If you're the kind of tech who wants a site run right rather than patched, you'll like working with us, and there's room for the engagement to grow. We recently acquired these locations and the units have not have routine preventative maintenance performed, so we have catch up to do.

Compensation: $45–65/hr, invoiced. Parts and materials reimbursed at cost.
