Build Your Career With Demco

Are you looking for an opportunity where you can learn, take on responsibility, and build a long-term career in commercial construction?

Demco, Inc. is looking for a motivated Assistant Project Manager to join our growing team in Melrose Park.

Since 1985, Demco has been a trusted commercial mechanical contractor serving the Chicagoland area. We specialize in commercial HVAC, sheet metal, design-build construction, and custom metal fabrication.

We're a small company doing big things—and that means your work matters. You'll work directly with experienced Project Managers, gain exposure to active commercial projects, spend time in the field, and develop the skills needed to eventually manage projects of your own.

This isn't just an Assistant Project Manager job. It's a career path.

Our goal is to develop the right person into a Project Manager who can confidently lead projects from start to finish.

What You'll Do

You'll be involved in the entire project lifecycle, including:

Assist with bids, estimates, takeoffs, budgets, and project schedules
Review blueprints, specifications, drawings, and construction documents
Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, general contractors, and field personnel
Visit active job sites to monitor progress, quality, safety, and project needs
Track project budgets, schedules, deadlines, and deliverables
Prepare and maintain project documentation
Assist with submittals, purchase orders, RFIs, change orders, and project correspondence
Communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal teams
Support Project Managers with daily project planning and execution
Help identify potential problems and find solutions before they impact the project
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and streamline processes
Take on increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence grow

You'll Learn More Than Just Project Administration

At Demco, you'll get exposure to estimating, preconstruction, procurement, field operations, scheduling, client communication, mechanical construction, and project closeout.

You'll see how a project moves from drawings and estimates to actual construction in the field.

Because Demco's work spans commercial HVAC, mechanical systems, design-build projects, custom sheet metal, and specialty building solutions, you'll have the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of commercial construction.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is smart, motivated, organized, dependable, and eager to learn.

You don't need to know everything on day one. We can teach the right person the construction-specific skills. What matters most is your attitude, work ethic, and desire to grow.

Ideal candidates will have:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred
Internship, co-op, or construction experience is a plus
Ability to read blueprints—or the willingness and ability to learn
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, or QuickBooks experience is a plus
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to spend time on active construction sites
Self-motivation and initiative
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Genuine interest in commercial construction and project management

Grow With Us

We're building for the future, and we want people who want to grow with us. You'll have a clear opportunity to advance into a Project Manager role.

Learn From Experienced Professionals

You'll work closely with people who have years of real-world experience in commercial mechanical construction.

Make an Impact

We're a smaller team, which means you're not just another name on an org chart. Your ideas, decisions, and contributions are noticed.

Get Real-World Experience

You'll work on actual commercial projects and gain experience both in the office and in the field.

Work With a Team That Values Quality

Demco has built its reputation on quality craftsmanship, integrity, teamwork, problem-solving, and long-term client relationships.

Be Part of an Established Company

Demco has been serving the Chicagoland area since 1985. We're established enough to provide stability and opportunity, while still offering the growth and hands-on experience of a smaller company.
