Van Dellen Steel is a privately held corporation located in Dutton, Michigan. Our experienced staff, well equipped facility and tremendous record for meeting even the most difficult contract requirements have allowed us to become a recognized leader in West Michigan for fabricated structural steel since 1968. Currently we are looking for a Welder/Fabricator

This role will be trained, however previous welding experience is a plus. Additional responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols to lay out and fabricate structural steel components accurately
Fit, tack, and weld structural members including wide-flange beams, HSS tube, angle iron, and plate
Perform complete joint penetration (CJP) and partial joint penetration (PJP) welds per applicable code requirements
Lay out, cut, grind, and prepare base metal using grinders and layout tools; maintain dimensional tolerances per drawings
Assemble and weld connection plates, base plates, end plates, stiffeners, and shear tabs to primary structural members
Operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment to position and move assemblies safely (training provided)
Maintain a clean and organized workstation; perform daily equipment checks, report maintenance needs, and follow lockout/tagout procedures
Collaborate with project leads, QC inspectors, and detailers to resolve fit-up issues and meet production schedules

Qualifications

1+ years structural steel fabrication experience
Proficiency in welding; ability to weld in flat positions
Current welding certification (or ability to qualify upon hire)
Ability to read and work from shop drawings and weld symbols
Proficient use of hand tools, layout tools, grinders, and cutting equipment
Strong understanding of fit-up, distortion control, and weld quality
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions for extended periods
Experience with fitting is a plus
