A long-established commercial mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Fitter to lead field crews across a variety of commercial projects. This is a hands-on leadership role involving installation, service, and maintenance work — not limited to new construction.
This position is ideal for a seasoned commercial mechanic with strong HVAC, piping, and plumbing experience who enjoys leading crews while staying active in the field.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead and coordinate field crews performing commercial mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing work
● Perform and oversee pipefitting, equipment setting, and mechanical system installations
● Execute or coordinate welding tasks (stick, MIG, TIG as required)
● Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and piping schematics
● Install, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC and mechanical systems
● Troubleshoot complex mechanical, piping, and equipment issues
● Ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable codes
● Track job progress, document completed work, and communicate status to management
● Train, mentor, and support apprentices and junior mechanics
Requirements
● 5–7+ years of commercial mechanical, HVAC, or plumbing experience
● Prior experience as a Lead Fitter or Foreman
● Strong pipefitting and welding background
● Ability to read mechanical drawings and HVAC layouts
● Experience with commercial systems (pumps, boilers, chillers, RTUs, piping systems, etc.)
● Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and coordination skills
● Reliable transportation and standard trade tools
● Welding certifications, OSHA training, or HVAC/plumbing licenses are a plus
