Sheet Metal Worker – Position Summary

The Sheet Metal Worker fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products and equipment. This role includes installing hangers or support systems and assisting with the installation of HVAC equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Select appropriate gage and type of sheet metal based on project requirements and material knowledge
Set up and operate fabrication machinery—including shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch/drill presses—to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal
Operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal components
Smooth seams, joints, and rough surfaces using files, grinders, or buffers
Install assemblies at the plant or job site according to blueprint specifications using hand and power tools
Install, repair, and ensure proper fit of sheet metal products and HVAC equipment
Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship program
Strong understanding of shop math
Skilled in working with tools, metals, and fabrication machinery
Ability to visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings, sketches, or blueprints
Ability to work within precise limits and maintain high accuracy
Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks that may change frequently
Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders or scaffolds
Full use of fingers, hands, arms, and legs
Adequate vision (natural or corrected)
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs; repetitive lifting of 25–30 lbs

Work Environment

Work performed on construction sites, in manufacturing facilities, or in a sheet metal shop
Exposure to various weather conditions
Use of personal protective equipment required

Pay: $18.00 - $50.00 per hour
