MEP Senior Engineer
Overview
The MEP Senior Engineer will lead the design, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems across a wide range of projects. This role requires strong technical expertise in direct construction experience, building systems, fire and sprinkler systems, and proficiency in Revit. The ability to mentor junior staff while collaborating closely with Project Managers, clients, architects, and consultants is essential. The Senior Engineer is responsible for ensuring design quality, code compliance, and constructability throughout all project phases.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead Documentation Preparation: Oversee the preparation of construction documents, including drawings, schedules, details, and specifications for MEP/FP systems.
- Engineering Calculations: Perform and review advanced engineering calculations (thermal load analysis, airflow, hydraulic, electrical loads, short-circuit, coordination studies, etc.).
- Site Surveys: Conduct and lead existing-condition site surveys; evaluate findings against original design intent and code requirements.
- Contractor Submittals: Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and product data for technical accuracy and compliance.
- Coordination: Coordinate MEP systems with architectural, structural, and other engineering disciplines to resolve conflicts and optimize designs.
- Client Engagement: Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination meetings; provide technical guidance and recommendations.
- Construction Administration: Support construction administration activities, including site visits, punch lists, and responses to field issues.
- Mentorship: Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical oversight and quality control.
- Project Support: Assist Project Managers with scope development, fee proposals, schedules, and workload planning as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, or related field).
- Experience: 7-10+ years of relevant MEP engineering experience in consulting or design environments, including direct construction experience with building systems and fire/sprinkler systems.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe).
- Additional Skills: Proficiency in fire/sprinkler design, construction practices, and Revit software.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
