POSITION: High School Electrical Plumbing and Pipefitting Instructor
LOCATION: James Rumsey Technical Institute
REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Hold valid WV Master Plumber's License issued by the West Virginia Division of Labor;
- Minimum of four (4) years of Plumbing related wage-earning experience OR Bachelor's Degree
or Associate's Degree and two (2) years of Plumbing related wage-earning experience
- Must hold or be eligible for a Career Technical Certificate or Career Technical First-Class Permit
endorsed, Plumber and Pipefitting 5-AD.
- Completion of a full year of training from an approved education program in the specialization may
count toward a half year of the work experience requirements. Relevant teaching experience may count as
equal to work experience requirements.
AREAS OF INSTRUCTION: The Plumbing and Pipefitting Teacher is assigned to deliver a comprehensive
instructional program of study. The teacher is also responsible for the
facility, equipment, curriculum, and safety. The teacher is responsible for
complying with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures for
career and technical education
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain, if necessary, and maintain a valid West Virginia Vocational Teaching Certificate
- Maintain and upgrade professional skills and teaching techniques
- Maintain professional work habits, attitudes, and appearance
- Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction,
demonstration and working time
- Perform any duties assigned by the administration
- Evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding; monitor progress toward
learning outcomes; prepare progress reports
- Foster a classroom and lab climate conducive to learning with strict adherence to all safety policies and
procedures
- Utilize instructional management systems which increase student learning and maximize time on task
- Must be computer and software literate and must be able to use 21st Century Teaching skills and
techniques
- Work effectively with partnership members and maintain an active advisory council
- Assume responsibility for policy development/revision of all necessary policies relevant to the programs
for which the employee is responsible
- Maintain records and compile data
- Provide individual and small group instructions whenever appropriate
- Adapt curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required.
- Participate in the student youth organization affiliated with the specific program area
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress; promote pupil-teacher-parent
relationships• Maintain basic attendance accounting and business services, as required
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local educational policies
- Assist in the recruitment and placement of students in the specified program area and cooperate with
other vocational teachers and employers in job placement of students
- Complete all reports and request for information, accurately and completely
ADDITIONAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Applicants who have been dismissed or who have had
their contracts non-renewed for cause by another school district are not eligible for consideration;
applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations are not to be considered eligible for consideration;
applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not be eligible for consideration; and,
applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration. The

SALARY:
James Rumsey Technical Institute salary schedule dependent on years of experience.
