Job Overview
Garden State Air Conditioning & Heating is seeking a highly experienced HVAC Service Technician to join our team. This role is intended for a senior-level technician with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on HVAC experience who can operate independently, diagnose complex system issues, and deliver consistent, high-quality service.
The ideal candidate will be confident servicing and repairing a wide range of residential and light-commercial heating and cooling systems, with a strong understanding of system performance, airflow, electrical components, and energy efficiency. This position plays a critical role in maintaining our service standards and customer satisfaction.
We value technicians who take ownership of their work, communicate professionally with homeowners and business clients, and approach troubleshooting methodically. Experience in plumbing, refrigeration, construction, or property maintenance is highly preferred and considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain all major HVAC system types, including:
- Gas furnaces
- Boilers (non-oil)
- Central air conditioning systems
- Heat pumps (air-source and ducted)
- Ductless mini-split systems
- Rooftop units and light-commercial systems
- Perform advanced troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and airflow-related issues with minimal supervision.
- Accurately identify system failures, explain findings to customers in clear, professional terms, and recommend appropriate repair or replacement options.
- Complete preventative maintenance and system performance evaluations to ensure efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Safely handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA and local regulations.
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams, piping layouts, and manufacturer documentation.
- Ensure all work meets NJ codes, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.
- Maintain clean, organized job sites and company vehicles.
- Document service work thoroughly, including diagnostics, parts used, and system conditions.
- Coordinate with dispatch, operations, and installation teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Represent Garden State Air Conditioning & Heating professionally at all times.
Note
Technicians must be fully capable of servicing all HVAC systems listed above. Oil-fired systems are excluded and are not required for this role.
Job Requirements, Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on HVAC service experience (required; residential and/or light-commercial).
- Proven ability to independently diagnose and repair all HVAC system types, including gas furnaces, boilers (non-oil), central AC, heat pumps, mini-splits, and rooftop/light-commercial units.
- Oil-fired system experience is not required and will not be part of this role.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Electrical systems (low and high voltage)
- Refrigeration cycles and diagnostics
- Airflow, duct design, and system performance
- Gas piping and combustion principles
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer documentation.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and make sound technical decisions in the field.
- Experience using digital service software, mobile work orders, and documentation tools preferred.
- Physically able to perform service work, including lifting equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
- Reliable, accountable, and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality workmanship and safety.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
