Position Overview:
The Marine Electrician will be responsible for troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining a wide range of electrical systems aboard various vessels. This role requires advanced technical expertise in marine electrical systems and adherence to safety and quality standards while working independently or within a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and repair electrical controls, motors, generators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic/pneumatic electrical systems as required.
- Outfit and layout wireways, install cable trays, and mount hangers for effective cable management.
- Perform installations and repairs on vessel electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Utilize electrical test equipment to identify and resolve issues with components, wiring, and controls.
- Read & interpret blueprints and schematics to plan and execute complex installations.
- Apply knowledge of grounding, bonding, and marine safety standards to ensure compliant and safe electrical installations.
- Adhere to all company and industry safety guidelines, including those specific to shipyards and confined spaces.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are used and stored properly.
- Contribute to a positive work environment and demonstrate professionalism with coworkers, clients, and subcontractors.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.
- Be flexible with working hours, including potential overtime, to meet project timelines.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years as a Marine Electrician or in a related field with strong troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, understanding of marine safety standards, and experience using electrical test equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and adjust to indoor and outdoor environments with changing weather conditions.
- Extensive knowledge of 12V, 24V, 120V, 208V, 240V, and 480V systems.
- Ability to accurately identify and install appropriate wire type, sizes, and ratings.
- Solid understanding of basic electrical theory including Ohm’s law, power equations, horsepower, resistance, conductivity, series and parallel circuits, and voltage drop.
Wage is dependent upon experience.
