Fire Safety Systems Technician
JOB TITLE: Fire Safety Systems Technician WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance PAY GRADE: AUX 8 – 238 Days
DEPARTMENT: Operations DATE REVISED: January 2026
Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install fire safety systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all fire systems and fixtures in district facilities.Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid license issued by the State of Texas in fire protection.
Fire Alarm: Fire Alarm Technician (FAL) through Tx Dept of Insurance
Fire Suppression: RME – General or RME- General Inspector through Tx Dept of Insurance
Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge fire alarm/safety systems and electrical wiring
Knowledge of fire safety codes and ordinances
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience:
At least five (5) years of experience in fire alarm/fire suppression system industry
Major Responsibilities and Duties:Maintenance and Repair
1. Measure, assemble, and install components of fire alarm sensors, including control panels and sensors code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
2. Repair and maintain fire suppression systems and communication/oversight of projects involving vendor completed projects.
3. Perform duties to ensure that workplace practices comply with all local, state and federal codes and regulations.
4. Diagnose and resolve problems in fire systems and equipment, and repair problems with wiring, broken components and other issues.
5. Complete annual District wide fire safety system inspections in accordance with NFPA25, State and local requirements including Kitchen Hood Suppression, Sprinkler, FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panels), Fire Extinguishers, and Backflows.
6. Measure, assemble, and install components of fire alarm sensors, including control panels and sensors.
7. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
8. Repair or recommend replacement of fire system components based on routine inspection results.
9. Work with Contractors and Vendors when necessary to ensure Fire Safety compliance.
10. Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner. Select material and hardware and calculate time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
11. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
12. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
13. Work with building principals and supervisors to schedule and complete projects.
14. Comply with all rules and procedures outlined in the Rockwall ISD Policy Manual and Employee Handbook.
15. Respond to emergency calls and/or after-hours calls as needed.
16. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

17. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
18. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
19. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to make sure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
