Instrumentation Electrician
Job Title: Instrumentation Electrician (2900-08, J#6962, 4065)

FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Salary: $36.0665 (min) to $40.6986 (max) per hour; 40 hrs/week
SUMMARY
Ensure proper instrumentation and electrical maintenance of the Wastewater Utility and collection system equipment in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner complying with all regulations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties not listed below may be assigned.
Maintains equipment by coordinating all instrumentation maintenance activities; Installation of new equipment; and Maintenance and inspection and repair of all existing equipment.
Fills in for the Plant Electrician assuming Electrician duties and responsibilities and coordinates all electrical maintenance activities.
Repairs and replaces faulty electrical components by using and testing equipment, hand and electrical tools to install relays, switches, motors, printed circuit boards and position sensing devices and using a laptop to interface with electrical components to set parameters and determine error codes.
Programming automated equipment by operating and testing for malfunctions, troubleshooting and setting up communications protocols, and PLC and automation programming.
Ensures operation of instrumentation and electrical systems and equipment (all structures/electrical equipment owned and maintained by the Wastewater Utility) by completing preventive maintenance requirements on all equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications, troubleshooting, and installs new equipment. Installs power supply, wiring, and conduit to and between equipment, installs electrical and controls equipment, and utilizes all available equipment and tools.
Repairs instrumentation and electrical systems and equipment by diagnosing malfunctioning apparatus and calibration such as flow, control and monitoring equipment, central computer, chlorine distribution, telemetering equipment, structure
generators and plant emergency power distribution systems, etc. Uses test equipment, hand and electrical tools to install all components needed.
Programs automated equipment by operating and testing for malfunctions and verifying repairs to equipment
Maintains instrumentation and electrical equipment parts and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies; placing and expediting orders; and Verifying receipts
Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, seminars and courses; reviewing professional publications; and maintaining required licenses
Helps the public by being courteous, investigating complaints promptly, and assuring prompt action. Coordinates with other Wastewater divisions and City department personnel and contributes to a team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Works safely by knowing facility rules and regulations; attending in-house and outside safety seminars and courses; and reporting unsafe conditions
Maintains clean work environment by performing housekeeping and custodial duties
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic reading, writing, mathematical, oral and written communications. Understanding of basic mechanical concepts associated with pipeline inspection equipment as required through five years of related experience. Understanding of basic mechanical and electronic concepts associated with inspection equipment or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPIERENCE
Journeyman Electrical Licenses required; Master’s Electrical license preferred.
Wastewater Operator's License preferred.
Hoist/Hydraulic license within 8 months of appointment is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Ability to utilize computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CMMS Software, and GIS. Ability to create tables, charts, and spreadsheets.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
