HVAC Mechanic – Local 638 Union Shop
Cooling Guard Mechanical – Serving NYC & Surrounding Areas

Cooling Guard Mechanical is seeking a seasoned, dependable HVAC Mechanic to join our growing team. We are a Local 638 union shop looking for an experienced professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and equipment
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Ensure all work complies with safety standards and NYC codes
Maintain accurate service records and communicate job progress
Work collaboratively with supervisors, mechanics, and office staff

Qualifications

Minimum 5+ years of HVAC field experience preferred
Strong knowledge of:
HVAC systems
Boilers
Chillers
RTUs
Split systems
Refrigeration systems
Controls and electrical troubleshooting
EPA Certification preferred
OSHA certification is a plus
Valid driver’s license required
Ability to work independently and manage job sites professionally
Union experience is a plus

Section 3 / NYCHA Preference

Candidates who qualify as Section 3 workers are strongly encouraged to apply.

A Section 3 worker is someone who:

Lives in NYCHA public housing, or
Is a low-income or very low-income resident within the NYC metropolitan area

Preference may be given to qualified Section 3 candidates in connection with NYCHA-related projects and federally funded work opportunities.
