Cooling Guard Mechanical is seeking a seasoned, dependable HVAC Mechanic to join our growing team. We are a Local 638 union shop looking for an experienced professional with strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC systems. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, communicate professionally, and take pride in delivering high-quality service.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and equipment
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues efficiently
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards and NYC codes
- Maintain accurate service records and communicate job progress
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, mechanics, and office staff
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of HVAC field experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of:
- HVAC systems
- Boilers
- Chillers
- RTUs
- Split systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Controls and electrical troubleshooting
- EPA Certification preferred
- OSHA certification is a plus
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to work independently and manage job sites professionally
- Union experience is a plus
Section 3 / NYCHA Preference
Candidates who qualify as Section 3 workers are strongly encouraged to apply.
A Section 3 worker is someone who:
- Lives in NYCHA public housing, or
- Is a low-income or very low-income resident within the NYC metropolitan area
Preference may be given to qualified Section 3 candidates in connection with NYCHA-related projects and federally funded work opportunities.
