Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sheetmetal Fitter specializing in marine applications to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining sheet metal components on marine vessels, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess extensive construction site experience, proficiency in various welding techniques, and a solid understanding of blueprint reading and mechanical systems. Duties
- Interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately fabricate and assemble sheet metal components for marine vessels.
- Perform cutting, shaping, and fitting of sheet metal using plasma cutters, press brake machines, hand tools, power tools, and machining equipment
- Conduct rigging tasks such as lifting, positioning, and securing heavy components using cranes and forklifts to facilitate precise assembly.
- Measure materials with calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools to ensure accurate fabrication according to specifications.
- Apply basic math skills for calculations related to measurements, material quantities, and fabrication tolerances.
- Assist in pipe threading, ductwork installation, and assembly of mechanical systems following ASME codes & standards.
- Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot issues during fabrication or installation processes.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols related to welding, machining, rigging, and construction site practices.
- Collaborate with team members across departments including manufacturing, construction, and maintenance to ensure project deadlines are met efficiently.
Experience
- Proven construction site experience within the marine or heavy industrial sectors is essential.
- Familiarity with blueprint reading, schematics interpretation, and mechanical drawings is required.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication involving sheet metal work such as ductwork or structural components.
- Knowledge of ASME codes & standards applicable to marine fabrication and welding practices.
- Skilled in operating power tools including press brake machines, machining equipment, hand tools, and rigging gear.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations accurately for measurements and material estimation.
- Experience working with forklifts or other lifting equipment is preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to construction sites involving welding, machining, rigging, and mechanical assembly.
