Color-Ad is a custom fabrication company specializing in museum exhibits, interpretive environments, and large-scale signage programs. We collaborate with designers, museums, and federal agencies to build exhibits and installations seen by millions of visitors each year.
Nearly everything we produce is custom. Our projects combine wood, metal, graphics, AV, lighting, and specialty finishes, and are built by a skilled in-house fabrication team.
We are looking for an experienced cabinet maker or exhibit fabricator who enjoys building unique projects and solving fabrication challenges.
The Role
We are seeking a skilled cabinet maker / exhibit fabricator to join our woodshop team. This position focuses on building custom exhibit components, cases, structures, and specialty elements from fabrication drawings.
This role is best suited for someone who has experience in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, exhibits, retail fixtures, scenic fabrication, or other custom-built environments.
What You’ll Do
- Build custom exhibit structures and cabinetry from fabrication drawings
- Work with a variety of materials including:
- Hardwood and plywood
- Solid surface materials
- Plastics and composites
- Aluminum and light metal components
- Operate shop equipment such as:
- Table saws
- Panel saws
- CNC equipment
- Routers and shapers
- Edge banders
- Assemble complex custom components and assemblies
- Coordinate with metal, graphics, and paint departments to complete integrated exhibit components
- Participate in test assemblies and quality checks before shipping
- Help solve fabrication challenges when custom designs require creative solutions
What We’re Looking For
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Custom cabinetry
- Architectural millwork
- Exhibit fabrication
- Retail fixtures
- Scenic fabrication
- Other custom fabrication environments
Skills:
- Strong woodworking and cabinetmaking skills
- Ability to read and work from fabrication drawings
- Experience with custom builds (not just production cabinetry)
- Comfort working with a wide variety of materials and fabrication methods
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
Bonus Experience (Not Required):
- Exhibit or museum fabrication
- CNC experience
- Experience integrating graphics or lighting into fabricated elements
- Installation experience
