Merx Truck & Trailer is a fast-paced heavy-duty repair shop servicing commercial trucking fleets across the Chicagoland area. We specialize in keeping Class 4–8 trucks and trailers moving with fast turnaround times, accurate diagnostics, and quality repairs.
Our shop works on a wide range of heavy-duty diesel equipment and engine platforms including Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, Volvo, and Navistar/International engines. We service major truck brands such as Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, and International.
We’re looking for technicians who can diagnose problems correctly, work efficiently, and take pride in doing the job right the first time.
What You’ll Do
Diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel engines, electrical systems, drivability issues, and aftertreatment systems.
- Work on engine platforms including:
- Cummins
- Detroit Diesel
- PACCAR
- Volvo
- Navistar/International
- Use OEM and aftermarket diagnostic software to troubleshoot faults efficiently.
Truck & Trailer Repair: Repair and maintain Class 4–8 trucks and trailers including:
- Brakes (air and hydraulic)
- Suspension and steering
- Drivetrain components
- Electrical and lighting systems
- Air systems and cooling systems
- Trailer structural repairs
PM Services & Inspections
- Perform preventative maintenance services and DOT inspections with speed and accuracy.
- Identify issues before they become breakdowns.
Shop Communication & Workflow
- Communicate clearly with service advisors, parts staff, and shop leadership regarding diagnostics, repair plans, parts needs, and ETAs.
- Maintain accurate repair documentation and inspection notes.
Productivity & Work Habits
- Keep your bay clean and organized.
- Work safely and efficiently in a high-velocity environment.
- Help the team hit cycle-time goals without sacrificing quality.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a diesel technician or heavy-duty mechanic.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
Strong Diagnostic Ability
- Able to troubleshoot engine, electrical, air, and drivability issues without “parts swapping” or guesswork.
- Experience using diagnostic software and scan tools.
Universal Truck Knowledge
- Comfortable working across multiple truck makes and engine platforms.
- Experience with Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, International, and similar heavy-duty equipment.
Professionalism
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable.
- Takes ownership of repairs and workmanship.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving shop environment with high expectations.
Tools
- Must have personal hand tools and air tools appropriate for heavy-duty truck repair.
