Position: Maintenance Specialist (HVAC)
Work Schedule: 261-days per year, 8 hours per day
Reports To: Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Facilities
Evaluation: Annual, as outlined in Board policy and administrative procedures
Summary: Perform the duties as required to ensure that all facilities, grounds and equipment are maintained in good working order by providing electrical, mechanical, preventative maintenance and general maintenance. Work with the administrators on scheduling parameters and maintain the HVAC and scheduling equipment so that the equipment functions properly to conserve energy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform the skilled repair and preventative maintenance required for all buildings, facilities and mechanical/electrical support systems.

Install, maintain and repair HVAC systems and equipment.

Perform general HVAC maintenance.

Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.

Utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects.

Complete work orders, record action taken and time taken.

Working knowledge of boiler systems.

Safely use various hand and power tools.

Troubleshoot HVAC issues using the appropriate testing equipment.

Stock and inventory basic repair parts and emergency items.

Install new or replacement motors, pumps, valves, compressors and other equipment.

Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration.

Keep assigned maintenance trucks and shop areas clean, orderly and tools organized. Report damages or losses in the appropriate timely manner.

Remove snow from building drives, parking lots, walkways and designated areas.

Accept additional duties as assigned from the Director of Facilities, Assistant Director of Facilities and the Superintendent that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
Minimum Qualifications:

Troubleshoot control circuitry for heat pumps, variable air volume units, air handling units and refrigeration equipment.

Able to troubleshoot mechanical components and repair or replace, compressors, thermal expansion valves, cap tubes, condensers and evaporators.

Understand the complete refrigeration cycle and how it relates to equipment.

Certified in evacuation and charging a refrigeration system.

Excellent work habits, attendance record and successfully complete and pass all criminal history and child abuse clearances.

Shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-80 pounds).
Sensory Requirements ~ All tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Most tasks require oral communications ability.
