Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Powder Coat Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for applying durable powder coatings to metal components, ensuring a high-quality finish that meets industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, experience with industrial painting processes, and proficiency in handling various tools and equipment. The Powder Coat Technician will be required to apply finishes via both manual and automated application methods. The Powder Coat Technician is responsible for ensuring parts are painted properly according to customer specifications while meeting all quality standards. The Powder Coat Technician is responsible for the set up and operation of powder coat equipment to ensure complete paint coverage on parts, metal materials and sub-assemblies as they pass through the spray booth on a conveyor line. The Powder Coat Technician is also responsible for conducting final detailed inspection and rework to ensure that the parts and product will exit the powder coat process with no flaws or defects.

- Maintain our Nordson Encore LT manual guns and Nordson iControl automated booth.
- Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area—clean booth, guns, and hoppers daily
- Sand and prepare surfaces for paint application using a palm sander and solvents
- Able to mask and protect parts with heat-resistant tape as needed
- Mix, apply, and sand high heat fillers
- Apply various types of powder coat such as metallics, epoxy, polyester, urethane, zinc rich, and fluoropolymer (AAMA 2605)
- Utilize a mil thickness testing gauge to determine if appropriate amount of powder was applied
- Utilize a thermometer to check powder cure in relation to product data sheets
- Pre-gel zinc rich primers before top coating
- Clean equipment at the end of each workday
- Track and coordinate inventory levels of powder and supplies
- Recognize and troubleshoot powder coat quality issues before baking, determine solutions for quality failures
- Hang steel and aluminum materials on racks to powder coat without interrupting or damaging finishes
- Track all part numbers, jobs, and quantities of each part with time spent to complete
- Wear PPE especially a respirator during shift
- Sand and use power tools as needed to prep and repair parts
- Utilize spray paint to perform touch up on powder coat as needed
Skills
- Proficiency with forklift operation, cranes, and other warehouse handling equipment.
- Mechanical knowledge related to manufacturing processes, machining, welding, auto body repair, and auto painting.
- Experience with industrial painting techniques including airless paint spraying and auto painting.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of materials handling procedures within a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and waste reduction.
- Basic math skills for measurements and quality checks; experience with fabrication or construction painting is a plus. Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
