POSITION OVERVIEW

TLC Truck & Equipment is seeking an experienced Commercial Truck Diesel Mechanic to join our expanding service department. This position involves diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse range of commercial trucks across various manufacturers, model years, and configurations.

Candidates should have experience working on multiple makes and models of commercial vehicles, with the ability to accurately troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, drivetrains, suspension components, braking systems, and other mechanical equipment. Strong diagnostic skills and attention to detail are essential.

This is a hands-on position working with a wide variety of commercial truck equipment, including tow trucks, wreckers, rollbacks, dump trucks, bucket trucks, utility trucks, liftgates, and other specialized vocational vehicles. A significant portion of the role involves the diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and installation of hydraulic systems and related components.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tune-ups
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on diesel trucks and commercial vehicles
Inspect and repair brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, cooling systems, engines, electrical components, and tires
Perform diagnostic tests using computerized diagnostic equipment to identify issues and determine the appropriate course of action
Repair and replace malfunctioning components including brakes, steering systems, hydraulic systems, and worn parts
Retrofit engines and perform complex mechanical overhauls as needed
Inspect vehicles for compliance with safety regulations and standards
Conduct pre- and post-repair test drives to verify quality of work
Maintain accurate and detailed service records for all repairs and maintenance performed
Collaborate with the service team to prioritize and complete repairs efficiently
Assist with additional shop projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum 2 years of experience as a commercial truck diesel mechanic
Experience with diagnostic computers and software; Cummins, Hino, and Isuzu software a plus
Carrier and Thermo King refrigeration unit experience is a major plus
CDL license is a major plus but not required
ASE certification in truck and/or automotive industry is a plus but not required
Valid driver’s license required — must be able to test drive trucks before and after repairs
Experience with lathes, welding torches, and machine shop equipment is a plus
Knowledge of forklift operation preferred
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. & able to frequently stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required
Must supply own set of tools commonly used in diesel and automotive repair
Must be able to complete an employment application and pass a drug test
