Position Summary
The Refrigeration Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting the safe and reliable operation of the facility’s refrigeration systems and related equipment within a food processing environment. This is a hands-on, single-contributor role that requires strong technical refrigeration knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while partnering with Maintenance, Production, Quality, Sanitation, and Safety teams.
This position plays a key role in ensuring refrigeration systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with SQF, USDA, GMP, OSHA, and site-specific food safety and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support refrigeration systems, including industrial refrigeration equipment, compressors, evaporators, condensers, pumps, valves, controls, and related utility systems.
· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and support continuous production operations.
· Monitor refrigeration system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety.
· Respond to refrigeration-related breakdowns and emergencies in a timely and effective manner.
· Support compliance with SQF, USDA, GMP, food safety, sanitation, and site safety requirements.
· Complete maintenance documentation, work orders, inspections, logs, and regulatory records accurately and timely.
· Partner with Production and Quality teams to ensure temperature-controlled areas and equipment are operating within required specifications.
· Support audits, inspections, and corrective actions related to refrigeration, utilities, maintenance, and food safety programs.
· Follow lockout/tagout, confined space, chemical safety, ammonia or refrigerant safety
· Assist with troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control system issues related to refrigeration and facility equipment.
· Recommend repairs, upgrades, parts, and process improvements to improve system reliability.
· Maintain clean, organized, and food-safe work areas in accordance with GMP standards.
· Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed for refrigeration service, inspections, repairs, and projects.
· Support continuous improvement initiatives related to maintenance, energy usage, equipment uptime, and operational efficiency.
· Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; technical school, trade certification, or related training preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of hands-on refrigeration maintenance experience, preferably in a food manufacturing or food processing environment.
· Experience with industrial refrigeration systems required.
· Experience working in USDA, SQF, GMP, or other regulated food manufacturing environments preferred.
· Strong knowledge of refrigeration system troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair practices.
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, equipment drawings, and work orders.
· Knowledge of OSHA safety standards, lockout/tagout, and safe maintenance practices.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, off-shifts, or emergency call-ins as business needs require.
Preferred Certifications
· EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification preferred.
· RETA, CARO, CIRO, or ammonia refrigeration certification preferred, if applicable to site equipment.
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
· Forklift, scissor lift, or other equipment certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in confined or elevated areas as needed.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to work in cold, wet, loud, and fast-paced food manufacturing environments.
· Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, freezer gear, and other site-required protective equipment.
· Ability to respond to refrigeration or maintenance issues throughout the facility.
Work Environment
This position works onsite in a food processing facility and may be exposed to refrigerated areas, production equipment, moving machinery, wet floors, temperature changes, noise, and sanitation chemicals. The role requires strict adherence to food safety, GMP, USDA, SQF, and company safety standards.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
