Heavy Machine Operator (Metal Cutting)

Location: Sumner, WA
Pay: $21.00/hour

Work Type: Temp to hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 3:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Position Overview

Our client in Sumner is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Heavy Machine Operator to operate equipment that cuts large sheets of metal to precise specifications. This is an early morning shift ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

This role requires strong attention to detail, as the operator will also serve as a quality control point—inspecting metal sheets throughout the production process to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operate metal cutting machinery to cut sheet metal accurately
Read and interpret work orders and measurements
Load and position metal sheets onto machines safely and efficiently utilizing a forklift
Load vinyl and plastic vinyl coating materials onto the machine
Monitor machine performance and make basic adjustments as needed
Inspect finished products to ensure quality and accuracy standards are met
Perform quality control checks by inspecting metal sheets as they move through the production process
Unload front and tail pieces of scrap material from the machine
Perform routine maintenance and keep equipment clean and operational
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies
Maintain a clean and organized work area

Qualifications

Previous experience operating heavy machinery or metal cutting equipment preferred
Experience operating a forklift required
Knowledge of banding products and processes preferred
Ability to read measurements and use basic measuring tools (tape measure, micrometer, etc.)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Ability to work within a team and stay productive during early morning hours
Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Reliable attendance and punctuality required

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours)
Ability to bend, twist, and work in a manufacturing environment
Comfortable working around machinery and industrial noise
