Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our dynamic aviation maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, fabricating, and installing sheet metal components of aircraft to ensure safety, compliance, and optimal performance. Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections of aircraft sheet metal structures using schematics, technical drawings, and CAD models to identify damage or wear.
- Fabricate, repair, and replace sheet metal components utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, and specialized industrial tools.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting documents to accurately execute repairs and modifications.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, ammeters, ohmmeters, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to ensure parts meet strict specifications.
- Conduct assembly and installation of sheet metal parts on aircraft airframes while adhering to FAA regulations (Federal Aviation Regulations) and industry standards such as AS9100.
- Perform maintenance on aircraft structural components in accordance with aviation maintenance procedures and flight line maintenance protocols.
- Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software for documenting work orders, tracking repairs, and maintaining accurate maintenance records.
- Support aircraft fabrication projects by interpreting engineering schematics and CAD files using AutoCAD or CATIA software.
- Assist with electrical systems repair related to avionics and mechanical systems as needed for comprehensive aircraft maintenance.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards including heavy lifting protocols, use of torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, welding techniques, soldering methods, and other safety procedures.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic or similar role within an aviation maintenance facility or military aviation environment.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in aircraft maintenance, fabrication, assembly, and equipment repair.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting documents.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or CATIA for design interpretation and modification planning.
- Experience working with precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, ohmmeters, ammeters, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Knowledge of FAA regulations (Federal Aviation Regulations), AS9100 standards for quality management systems in aerospace manufacturing.
- Electrical experience related to avionics systems or electrical wiring is highly desirable.
- Military aviation experience or background in vehicle maintenance is a plus for understanding complex systems integration.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and use specialized industrial tools safely; physical capability for heavy lifting is required.
- Familiarity with welding techniques such as MIG/TIG welding necessary for sheet metal fabrication tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis on structural issues or defects.
