Job Purpose
The Mechanical Lead Assembler is responsible for leading the daily activities of the mechanical assembly team while actively participating in the assembly, testing, and inspection of products. This position ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while meeting production schedules and customer requirements. The Lead Assembler serves as the primary technical resource for the team, provides training and guidance, and works closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
- Lead, mentor, and support the daily activities of the mechanical assembly team.
- Assign work based on production priorities and employee skill levels.
- Train new and existing employees on assembly techniques, work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Monitor workflow and productivity to ensure production schedules and deadlines are achieved.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
- Assist the Production Manager in identifying process improvements and implementing best practices.
- Communicate production issues, staffing concerns, material shortages, and quality concerns to the Production Manager.
- Serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting assembly questions and resolving production issues.
Assembly & Production
- Assemble mechanical and electromechanical products according to engineering drawings, work instructions, SOPs, and customer specifications.
- Prepare workstations by gathering required parts, tools, equipment, and documentation.
- Inspect components before assembly to verify quality and completeness.
- Perform mechanical assembly including fastening components, routing cables, installing hardware, labels, and subassemblies.
- Inspect, test, adjust, and verify completed assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications, tolerances, and customer requirements.
- Accurately measure components using standard measuring instruments.
- Complete required production documentation, quality records, and inspection reports.
- Ensure finished products are properly labeled and moved to designated inspection or shipping areas.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and product quality.
- Verify assemblies meet engineering specifications and quality requirements before submission to Quality Control.
- Identify product defects, assembly errors, or process concerns and recommend corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation as needed.
Safety & Equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following all company safety policies.
- Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and production resources.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of assembly equipment.
- Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain flexibility to support other production departments as business needs require.
- Participate in cross-training initiatives to improve departmental capabilities.
- Support inventory accuracy by reporting material discrepancies and assisting with inventory activities when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial technology, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 3–5 years of mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring employees preferred.
- Experience reading engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.

- Conduct measurements using calipers, micrometers, precision measurement instruments, and other measuring tools for quality assurance.
- Read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to support electrical integration within mechanical assemblies.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues related to hydraulics, pneumatics, power tools, or industrial equipment during assembly.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all assembly activities, including forklift operation and handling of heavy components.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assembly processes, inspection results, and technical deviations for continuous improvement.
Skills
- Strong ability to interpret blueprints, schematics (electrical and mechanical), and technical drawings with precision.
- Proficiency in operating CNC machines, machining tools setup, and metal fabrication techniques.
- Extensive electrical experience including reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for industrial equipment.
- Skilled in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, and other precision measurement devices for quality control.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems, hydraulics, welding techniques, and fabrication processes within manufacturing environments.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used in automation systems.
- Ability to interpret production documents accurately while adhering to safety standards; familiarity with measurement for quality assurance is essential.
- Competence in operating forklifts safely within a manufacturing setting.
- Mechanical knowledge encompassing assembly procedures, machine setup, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and metal machining skills.
