Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Fire Alarm Testing & Inspection Technician to join our dedicated team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to perform comprehensive testing, inspection, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA standards and building codes. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, mechanical knowledge, and a passion for ensuring safety and system reliability in commercial and industrial environments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly, and acceptance testing of fire alarm systems.
- Inspect fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and associated equipment.
- Conduct sensitivity testing of smoke detectors as required.
- Test sprinkler supervisory devices, water flow switches, tamper switches, duct detectors, elevator recall, door release functions, and other integrated life safety components.
- Troubleshoot deficiencies and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement.
- Complete inspection reports accurately and thoroughly.
- Document all deficiencies and communicate findings to customers and management.
- Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with applicable codes and manufacturer recommendations.
- Coordinate testing with customers, monitoring companies, and local authorities when required.
- Verify proper operation following repairs or modifications.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, testing equipment, and inventory.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, and system documentation.
- Maintain accurate daily service reports, work orders, and time records.
- Provide excellent customer service while representing the company professionally.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in after-hours emergency service or on-call rotation as assigned.
· Other duties as assigned by the management.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
· Hours are to be from 7a-3p – Monday-Friday
· This is a full-time hourly position.
· Employee is expected to work an identified schedule every day.
· Part of weekly on-call rotation.

Competencies
- Thorough understanding of fire alarm systems and life safety equipment.
- Knowledge of applicable fire alarm codes and standards, including National Fire Protection Association 72.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize multiple service calls.
- Professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Systems Technician license required (Class D electrical), MA Journeyman Electrical license preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of fire alarm inspection or service experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of commercial fire alarm systems.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and fire alarm plans.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency using tablets or mobile service software.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Workplace Environment
Environmental & Working Conditions:
This position is primarily field-based and requires travel to customer locations, construction sites, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and other job sites to install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain fire alarm systems. The Fire Alarm Technician works both independently and as part of a team in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, heights, confined spaces, dust, noise, and other construction-related hazards. The position also requires periodic office work to complete documentation, reports, and communication using a computer, telephone, and other standard office equipment. Frequent interaction with customers, contractors, coworkers, and other trades is an essential part of the role.
Manual Duties/Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., sit and stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, reach overhead, kneel and balance to meet the physical requirements of this position.
Work is often done in a time-sensitive and demanding environment. There are often important deadlines and the requirement to coordinate work on multiple complex assignments at the same time.

Pay: $42.00 - $55.00 per hour
